I rather suspect any new contract would be hugely different from what he was originally on when we signed him. IIRC he was the highest paid player in RL at the time.
Two years out and his age are now against him.
The lad was instrumental in saving us from relegation when he arrived.

 Wigan have confirmed that forward, Stuart Fielden will leave the club at the end of the year, after six seasons of service.
The 33 year-old has been plagued with injuries since February of last season, and has therefore lost his first team jersey after making just two appearances.

I'm not sure that this is the correct decision, his age and experience (not to mention his professionalism) could be a great asset which the squad lose. I was only discussing this morning the potential for him to stay at Wigan for this reason and maybe take on more of a forwards coaching role going forward.
