| Has anyone heard if Thornley picked up an injury at the weekend ? Nipped out to the local store to pick up a few bits and i am sure it was him with his right ankle strapped up using crutches. Hope i am wrong as the lad looks like he is going to be a good un.

| Thought he had a good game tonight and dealt with some of Hulls kicks very well, he looks very safe under the high ball.
Both Thornley and Smith are looking like shrewd signings by SW.

| Thornley did very well defensively, especially when there was the chance of some overlaps. He did exactly what a winger should do, committed himself to the man with the ball and snuffed out the danger.
He's not the quickest and never will be, but he's shown himself to be a decent winger if needed. There's still a lot he needs to work on, but he made sure he took the safe option and did well dealing with a couple of cross field kicks under pressure.

| Does less but is a much safer option than Gelling for the wing. Must be Carmont's heir.

| One thing I liked about tonight, when he made the break, he took the man on, on the outside, after failing to do this a couple of times last week. This shows he is working on his game, and I applaud him for that.

Very true I was also impressed by Sam powell, at the moment Wigan have got so much good young talent coming through only a shame we won`t be able to keep them all.

| He looks a very solid player playing out of position, I feel a lot more confident with him on the left wing than I did with Gelling, currently Thornley is much the better player.
I believe Jack Hughes is currently the best replacement for Carmont next season he's got so much ability.

Has improved at centre going off todays performance. Some of the balls he gave to Charnley were all class. Don't think he deserves to be dropped next week.

Agree. Though it was Hughes' best performance for us to date. Looked a lot more composed than he has before.

| hughes, thornley and gelling are going to have a very nice little contest for places next year !
and with Murphy's impressive debut and ability to kick, I can see Pat being under real pressure to keep his place.
hughes looks to me to have the makings of a better centre than back rower
thornley has impressed me with the way he has improved game on game, and can easily cover both centre and wing.
gelling is a centre so we can only really judge him fully on that.
next season we could potentially go in with full English back line for the first time an age. The potential of the following is really scary, with cover across the park :
Sam
Josh-Thornley-Goulding-Hughes-Murphy-Russell (pick and mix)
Smith-Powell-Hampshire

| Yes the future does look good - I though Hughes played really well last night - he reminds a lot of Denis Betts in his play and if he can turn out anywhere near that level he will have an excellent career ( personally I think he is a top prospect), he certainly did not look out of place at centre - his passing was spot on. Thornley did not do a lot but was effective,I thought he showed good decision making under the high ball, not trying to be too clever. Gelling is raw but has potential.

| Hughes did well last night but we have to remember it was against a very poor Hull team, probably the worst I have seen, and he was left with plenty of time and space and in many of the situations he was faced it would have been practically impossible to mess it up. He was also against a makeshift centre for much of the game with players for Hull playing out of position. He has certainly never looked that comfortable playing in closer games or against regular centres in other games this season and I dont think people should get carried away by one easy game. By his own admission he also is not a centre and doesnt particulalry like playing there.

| I'd still say Hughes is more of a back row than a centre, it's just a credit to him that he looks comfortable in both positions.
It takes more time to develop as a forward than as an outside back generally so he's got a lot more to come. His performance in his preferred position, left side second row, against Catalans was fantastic so he's shown his ability in the forwards as well as the backs.
If he's dropped for the game against Wire I just won't be able to understand it. Tuson seemed to play his usual 10 minutes and getting little chance to show anything. When Hughes is on the bench he gets more game time and so has more to give to the team.
