| Anyone else have flashbacks to Cardiff 2008 after Gelling made him look stupid at the end? Shame he didn't score otherwise it would have been on the highlights.

| Watching Mathers and Tim Smith play sent shudders down my spine and gave me an even greater appreciation of the team we've watched develop over the past few seasons.
Those types of players and the teams performances at that time just make me look forward all the more to games like this Saturday.

Tough choice as to which of them was worse, defensively. For me, Tim Smith won the "turnstyle of the day" award.
Next question: who would you prefer as our favourite opposition fullback, Mathers or Wellens?

| Just remember you got Martin Gleeson in that deal. Richie was a good fullback for you.

His two tries in our Grand Final victory in 2010 will go down in history, you're right.
And Mathers was never a good fullback for us. So Much so her was once Boo'd pre match in the South Stand bar - that's how little respect the Wigan fans had for the effort he had shown us in his time at the club.

The annoying thing about that was that the try was disallowed. We were making out way towards the exit and were in line with the touchline. Gelling was at least a foot inside the touchline.
Mind you it's not the first time we've been done by a touchie at that ground.
1962 when we got robbed 5 - 4. Frankie Parr broke round the blindside of a scrum and was clear only for the home friendly touchie to decide that Parr was in touch (never).
Not that I'm bitter about it
It ranks alongside the Billy Benyon try in the Championship final and the Keith Hepworth tackle on Colin Tyrer as the worst decisions I have seen.

I'd have liked another look at the Gelling no try tbh. I hate that there aren't video refs at every game.

Do you mean the 1971 Final at Station Rd, Billy Ashurst had one of the best second row games I have had the pleasure to watch (Great player), John Mantle got sent off 15-20 minutes from the end with Wigan leading 10-6, Saints eventually won 16-12, Incidentally 8 players on display that day played for both sides during their career, (No, not at the same time!!) Billy by the way, was not offside. at least thats what the Ref said
