I know it was his first proper game for us, but deary me, this guy looks to lack enthusiasm, he doesn't seem to have much pace and he got carried over his own line twice, that SHOULD NOT happen at his size. I think we may have another Karl Pryce on our hands. Thoughts?

I was suprised when they shoved him back and he was lucky the ref gave a pen. He did not go looking for work, which you would expect if he wanted to prove himself as a first team player.

Very dissapointed with him, for a man of his size its should be taking at least 2 players to stop him. He didnt look interested, Finch had a go at him twice in the first half.

He isnt a winger and should not of been on the wing IMO, to be honest in attack i dont remember us hardly ever going to his side or at least kicking for him on the 5th tackle he just seemed a lonely figure. I did think he needed to come and look for more work. I was hopingthe run he had off the scrum would of give him a boost but it didnt.

I wont judge him on his first game played out of position but i think a player like him being in the u20's is pointless he either has to play or go on dual reg for a period.

I'm so disappointed that I can't boo Lauaki due to him turning out to be a decent signing. Thankfully it looks like I can now turn my attention to Gelling.

Sorry but I disagree that he played poor.

I thought he had a very good first half with plenty of enthusiasm and just a quiet second half.

With regards to getting carried over the line, it was a very quick Widnes line speed with 4 or five defenders well positioned. He just made the mistake of angling his run and didn't look to find the floor, that's all.

I think the same. When he was able to run the ball he looked decent and was pretty hard to stop. Getting carried over the line was just a rookie mistake. That will have been noted when the coaches watch the game again and they will be making sure he knows what he did wrong.

I thought he did alright, carried the ball up well on a number of occasions and at times, proved a handful for the Widnes defence.

I actually think its a bit of an insult to suggest he is another Pryce after one game.

Only just saw this post but I fully agree, thought the criticism is rather unjust to be fair.

Some people must watch a different game at times.

He got put over his own line because he ran sideways along the in goal. Just my opinion, I thought he was poor and lacked aggression and produced no threat, hence why he was replaced midway through the second half.

Again like the other youngsters he'd have been better served playing in a virtual full strength side with just one or two players rested. It also didn't help the lad that he was played on the wing when he would seem a centre or second row.

It's always tough to judge on one showing and I'd give him a shot at centre against London. If Gouldings fit I'd play him in Hughes place and if not it'd be a straight swap IMO. We can then make a judgement in his natural position playing alongside hopefully a first choice side.

The way Gelling was pushed back was due to him not knowing the tactic of going to ground early to prevent being lifted which is what happened. Russell made the same mistake as well.
Like most people, I've no problems with any of the young lads out there yesterday just that there were too many of them all at once.
When the squad was announced, the backs named were just a nightmare! All of them good, yes, but not all at once, Please!!!!!!!!

I remember him coming inside for work several times and carrying 3-4 players on his back. At the end of the day though, he isn't a winger. To add to that, Charnley was on the wrong wing as well...

Missed half his 6 tackles if you believe the Opta stats. Must do better.

His effort to stop Briscoe first try was terrible considering he'd made good ground to get there.

At the end of the day though the lads just a bargain basement 'gamble' signing. If it pays off great but if not we've lost very little. He showed enough signs in pre season and at points on Sunday to suggest there's plenty of talent there but we need to look at him in his correct position for a run of games to make a decent assessment of him.

Ive seen enough to suggest he wont be good enough to wear a Wigan shirt. Positional play was awful and his defence was shocking.
