Don't Rugby Union have a rule where they are permitted to sign one 'marquee player' who doesn't count on the cap?
A fantastic rule. Something I would love to see League do something similar.
Trouble is Castleford and Wakefield wouldn't like it.

Both shouldn't even be in super league. They don't deserve it, they are championship clubs and they are bringing the standard of the league down. Holding the best clubs back.
I say go back to a 10-12 team league, put the cap up. Allow a club to spend whatever they like paying players they produced who are named in their 25 man squad. That way the clubs who produce players get rewarded for doing so.
Along with a marquee signing the teams would look in much better shape. We would still have Joel Tomkins and probably Thurston at 7. People would pay to watch that every week! |
