Quote ="Odem"Both shouldn't even be in super league. They don't deserve it, they are championship clubs and they are bringing the standard of the league down. Holding the best clubs back.
I say go back to a 10-12 team league, put the cap up. Allow a club to spend whatever they like paying players they produced who are named in their 25 man squad. That way the clubs who produce players get rewarded for doing so.
Along with a marquee signing the teams would look in much better shape. We would still have Joel Tomkins and probably Thurston at 7. People would pay to watch that every week!'"
Sorry but couldnt resist the bite on this one.
We have only been a championship team on 2 occasions since entering the top flight of rugby league - the first after a very poor season along with a little
help from your good selves cheating the salary cap to save yourselves from relegation, the second through the yo-yo effect of our first relegation/promotion, from this point we have built again, finished 7th and now missed out on the 8th play off position for the last two years on the trot on the final week of the regular season (taking several points from your mighty selves in the proccess) also being a little unfortunate not to have met yourselves in the challenge cup final last season.
This alone may suggest that even with your theory of reducing the number of teams in the league, we may just justify being in one of those top 12 teams you refer to - if we are bringing the standard of the competition down and holding back the big clubs what are the 5 clubs below us doing ?
Do Cas and Wakey make the decision to have a salary cap and set its limits? or are we just 2 of the 14 clubs who vote the for and against the rules made
Maybe you are correct and its time that things are tweaked, and or the cap is changed - never nice when a bigger club or a bigger code take your best youngsters and home grown talent, im sure thats some thing we know little about either, and some thing as a club you dont partake in.
Dont know about having no limit as to what you can spend on players - do you think we can compete with a code that is prepared to lose over £30million a season at club level and more importantly should we ?
If you want to blame us for losing players to the other code and not being
allowed to spend an unlimited amount of money on players feel free to continue, you are only fooling yourselves.
As for not deserving our place in super league, we have earned it. As for holding the bigger clubs back - Bradford as an example seem to do a good enough job themselves and maybe it should be down to them to earn the right to be one of the top teams again without having to throw us out to help them do so
