| Just a quick heads up to remind others such as myself, that Crosby and Mellor will be playing for Widnes tonight against Halfax live on SKY. Possibly Logan Tomkins as well, although he hasn't played for Widnes for a couple of weeks now.

| All three played - Mellor bagged a brace with some excellent support play. He set up the break for his first try with a clever flat pass too. He looks a very good player - good kicking game as well.
Crosby looks like a machine at that level. Tackled everything and made the hard yards with the ball.
Logan Tomkins looked good at hooker too. Lead Widnes round the park pretty well. He probably needs some work on his tackling though - he's not the biggest.

| Mellors grubber from the scrum on his own 10 could have put Widnes in an excellent attacking position if Penny hadnt had the biggest brainfart!

| I thought Mellor was very good! He created Widnes's first try, and through great support play scored two of his own. I also thought his kicking game was superb, he continually found the ground and looks to have mastered the ability to get the ball to stop on a sixpence, which caused Halifax no end of problems. The only thing I'd like to see more of from him is taking on the defensive line a little more.
Crosby was steady. Made reasonable meters with ball in hand. But it was his defense that was most encouraging, his work ethic was superb.
Logan was OK. I thought he was pretty quiet to be honest.

| crosby really excites me, looks an excellent prospect.
Mellor very smart player would fit into our system well I feel in the halves. Needs a bit of work on defence though.
still not seen anything from Tomkins to think he will make it at Wigan.

| Dual-registration works well for these players.
It sounds like all the above are going great guns, Widnes must of wracked-up one hell of a score against a weaken Halifax - shame I missed it. What score did the Wigan assisted Widnes win?

| Mellor and Crosby both look promising. Mellor is a very smart player for his age, more of a Myler than a Sam for me. He's got promise-if I'm honest Sam was streets ahead at his age, but his support play and passing looks good. I think he's ready for a first team run out.
Crosby-excellent work rate. Work horse prop. Love to see him step up to first grade SL level.
In all honesty Logan looks average at best. Doesn't stand out at that level.

| Logan's just turned 20. He definitely has something about him and he has plenty of time to realise his talent.
Quite frankly I can't imagine him not being a good player when you consider how good his brothers are. As for Mellor - the Myler comparison is quite apt in reference to his support play. He's definitely ready for the step up.
And no - Sam is streets ahead of Joel and Logan, but tbf he's the best player in the country.

| A Myler type player could go very well alongside Finch.
Whoever we have replacing Deacs, they have to have a good kicking game. They could do absolutely nothing else, but as long as they can kick!

I thought Mellor kicked very well last night. Found the ground each and every time. His kicks tend to stay quite low to the ground as opposed to going high, so in that respect they don't stay in the air as long meaning the opposition don't get as long to get themselves in position to field his kicks.

Wouldnt go that far but he does look pretty good. He wouldnt be knocking McIllorum out of my team yet though. Id bring him in as interchange though if we need to have tommy at 7 for injuries or whatever.

i disagree about low kicks.
high long kicks are best imo with the maximum "hang time" allowing us to get in their faces, or even get the ball back. Pats brilliant at this, spiralling it as well.
He would make a great "punter" or Kick off guy in the NFL, where "hang time" is the priority.

This always gets said when there is a younger brother coming through. I remember people saying it about Wayne Rooney's brother when he first broke through at Everton and I'm sure it was said about Tom/George Burgess when Sam started playing at Bradford.

Not to be too pedantic, but Logan has only just turned 19, he's got plenty of time to improve and prove himself at Wigan.
Mellor has always looked good when I've seen him play and I can't understand how he's not been given a chance yet.
