I actually feel loads more confident about saturady now.

Love the stats you put together. They are unusual (players appearances fro squad numbers 1-13), but really show a different picture than your run of the mill metres gained and tackles stuff.

While it is a different way of looking at things those stats are very selective.

Our 3 new signings were all outside the 13 and just because you have a number on your back doesn't make you the number one player in that position.

Subs also don't count as 1-13.

A better stat would be counting the number of injuries and the average length of time they are out for.

Wigan's form has been very good and we've beaten some of the top sides along the way. The only team we haven't beaten this season is Catalans.

Saints ran us very close twice, it was pointed out to me last night though that Wigan are far stronger now than the last tight match at the DW.
It was also mentioned that Saints will have to play better than they have all season if they are to beat Wigan. Those comments from a Saints fan!

Like Bilko, I'm very confident but never over confident which I was the last time I watched Wigan at Wembley in 1998.

looking at those stats - great read by the way;

taking SL form into the CC usually counts for nothing i know, and the games each team has played in each of their last 6 games is faily even when you consider the quality and position of each team played in th SL, the only difference being that we beat wire whereas they didn't. in those games we have only condeded 11 less points than saints have and saints have outscored us by scoring 244 points to our 214.

our previous form against saints especially considering they are normally big games anyway, and given our seemingly tip top mentality when it comes to big games these days under the excellent coaching of MM and SW, you can't see very far past a close game with wigan taking the slight victory. but looking at those stats, saints for me are a big threat and i'm not so confident now!

You're right, but that would also include stats for fringe players who are injured, like Eamonn O'Carroll for us, who to be honest probably would not have made the starting 17 for every match had he and Fielden both been fit.

Maybe a slightly better stat, and just as easy to compile, would be 1-17?

I agree. Our figures include Goulding & Gleeson, for example, neither of whom were out because of injury.
