Apparently he has some expertise in paint, particluarly in the drying aspect of it.

I think Kear's been badly treated by Wakey. He's hardly had money to burn to assemble a squad, but they've largely stayed mid-table under his coaching. The problem is that because Wigan unearthed a jewel in Maguire, every club now thinks that getting an assistant coach from the NRL is a guarantee of success. Does no-one recall Hull's post-Kear decline under Peter Sharp, or the wondrous coaching of Kevin Walters at Cats? |

Michael Maguire didn't exactly burn money in his first season, either.
Brought in just 1 player and took us from (relative) mid-table to champions.
Kear is a lousy coach - Blames everyone/eveything but himself in order to hang on to his job, and is VERY ungracious when his team get played off the park. |

You miss my point. Maguire as you say already had a decent squad - play-off qualifiers and cup semi-finalists. Wakey pre-and-post Kear could only dream of this. |
