| The big day is here and I can't wait for half 4. I was thinking about how close this game might be and thought a drop goal might nick it. That made me think about Joe Lydon's 61 yard drop goal at Main Road v Wire in 1989.
What are your memories of Wigan v Wire in CC?

I never get fed up of seeing that try! I remember the week leading up to the final and Alan Tait saying nobody would beat him on the outside. Take another look Mr Tait....... If you dare!

| 1967 at Wilderspool. Wire leading 19 -14 with only minutes to go. Cliff Hill scored and Eric Ashton kicked the goal to make it a draw.
Wigan won the replay convincingly, but lost to Salford in the next round.
1992 at Central Park. The match was played a few days later than the rest of the round as Wigan were in Australia winning the sevens. John Monie had the players straight off the plane into training. Wigan won 14 - 0.
and obviously
1985 at Wilderspool and that wonderful Ferguson try with Kenny urging him on

| My first challenge cup final was v. Wire in 1990. I remember stopping at services (I think Watford Gap) and joining in with playing tag rugby, two groups of Wire and Wigan fans in white Boiler suits (don't know what all that was about), the friendly atmosphere (compared to football), the "beer hill" outside Wembley with all the singing, the shock and awe of reaching the top of the steps and seeing the inside of Wembley in all its glory for the first time, THAT hit from Bob Jackson on Shaun Edwards (hence the username) and best of all seeing Paul Bishop get poleaxed and staggering around like he didn't know what planet he was on.
Roll on 4-30pm today.

| The thrashing we gave Bratfut in 1992 at Burnden Park in the SF.
It was a fantstic all round performance, one of the greatest displays by one of the all time great sides of RL. The team would go on to thrash Leeds in the Premiership SF and punish Saints at OT in two other magnificent displays in what was an incredible second half of the season.
Miles and Offiah were fantastic in that period and scored 7 tries between them in the SF.

| I missed Wembley 1990, I remember watching it on the TV while waiting to bat in a school cricket match, and the scousers kept wanting to change channel to see what was happening with Liverpool v QPR in the football as Liverpool clinched the league. To put things in a historical context that Wire v Wigan Challenge Cup final at Wembley was the last time Liverpool were crowned champions.
Widnes 2004 I thought was a really good game with not much in it between the two teams. At that time we weren't quite ready to win trophies but we had a good crack against a Wigan team which was ageing but still had some top players in it (as well as an emerging O'Loughlin and Hock). Utimately the difference between us was Dallas that day, not just his sensational try but he caused us real trouble all game. The sad thing I remember about that day is the interview afterwards was the first time Mike Gregory's symptoms started to show, up till then he had kept them under control but his speech was slurred and he looked unwell in the post match interview and that started the internet buzz rumours about what was wrong with him. It was very soon after he went public about his condition.
And of course the Challenge Cup semi final in 2009 was a magnificent day for all of us Wire fans, the game had so much anticipation and was the perfect opening 30 minutes of rugby league for us, we smashed Wigan out of sight in the early part of the game, Wigan then did put on a fair crack to try and turn it round but the gap was too big. Because we were running in tries from early on the game had a kind of party atmosphere to it for the Wire fans, talking to a lot of Wire fan mates they regard that as their favourite ever Wire game (even more than the actual Wembley wins), because of the style of our victory and the opposition being Wigan.

| Shaun Edwards charging down Dave Lyon's kick with his face already smashed in and Betts picking up to score in the 1990 Final - what an effort that was from Giz that day.

I have great memories of that final too. We paid £12 for tickets and there had been a big mix up. We ended up sat in the Olympic Gallery worth £45 each, drunk and very out of place! Then we missed the coach back!! Awesome!

| For me, the first time to Wembley in 85. Just walking down Wembley way and seeing the two towers, sensing this is a special place.
