..has taken some stick for his comments in the past but was very honest and forthright in his appraisal of this weekends game. Credit where it's due. the sky team were offering up ready made excuses but he refused to take them and was very complimentary of the Wigan performance, players and coaching. Of particular interest was the following:

"Brown singled out for particular praise Wigan captain Sean O'Loughlin, the England loose forward he rates better than Australia-based internationals Sam Burgess and Gareth Ellis.

"Wigan have got some terrific players," he said. "I think O'Loughlin is comfortably the best British player in the game. He's better than Burgess and Ellis and when they dominate so easy he can control the game very well."

This is something that has been said on numerous occassions from the coaches he has played under as well as the players he has played alongside. Interesting that it comes from a neutral coach though and one who has been there and done it over in the NRL in his own right.

watched the game on tv last night and he was very honest , something other coaches could possibly take a look at , so as you say , credit where its due

lockers workrate is just imense and for a hard hitting forward to be as good as he his at leading a team round the pitch and doing some lovely kicks is quality

i dont think even the most biased and one eyed coach could find any excuses for that!
thats one of the reasons we like browny so much is that he is very good at praising the opposition and being honest about his own team's failures rather than looking for someone else to blame.

To be fair, things must have been really bad for him to complain about the ref even though they just pumped Leeds 38-6 at Headlingley.

It's not quite the same seeing that Huddersfield won the match, which is why i don't mind Nathan Brown because he is an honest bloke.

Brown and Maguire are the best two coaches in the league, and the most gracious in defeat. Now compare their attitude to that of Agar, McDermott and Kear - all of whom find other people to blame for their own inadequate coaching.

You have to praise Brown for his comments there. I'm sure Hudds will come back strong as a result of that game, hopefully against wire in a few weeks.



Think you should add Smith to that list. Infact Smith is on the list before Brown..... he has won much more as a coach and has turned a poor side at wire around just as Brown has done at Hudds.

They breed a no excuse culture and are both super coaches.

Along with Smith who does much the same they're the best in the league.

All three (Brown, Maguire, Smith) relatively young Australian coaches - what an amazing coincidence! Made me laugh watching Karl Harrison the other week on "...Supermen" when he complained about British coaches not being given an opportunity. What does he expect when the results are there for all to see?

Smith, Maguire and Brown are miles ahead of the rest. Tony Smith is a fantastic coach, a lot of Wires recent success is down to Smith.

I thought he said more or less the same thing in 2010 after a game v Wigan.

but people seem to forget that tony smith takes a lot of credit for where we are at now. he took over a team that had negativity running all the way through, we had a losing culture at huddersfield before he came, yes he was the coach when we finally,thankfully did get relegated but we almost survived in his first few games in charge, we then went the next season unbeaten and made massive strides when we came back up, he then went to leeds and turned them around. a very good coach and one guy who turned our club round.

That would be ideal IMO. Brown with Wane as his assistant. They play a similar style of rugby so it wouldn't be a huge change....

Me too. I expect Wane to get the job and I'll be in no way dissappointed when he does, but I think another couple of years as assistant under a quality head coach would benefit him and Wigan.
