It's not must win for either team but I think it helped us immensely last year to lead from 1st. I think rather than the Challenge Cup, it was having to chase and chase and chase and chase Wigan down for 1st than mentally wore down Warrington at the back end of the year and then losing 2nd on the last day of the season demoralised them further.

Same with Leeds. I know they won at Wigan in the play offs but they didn't have the legs even after a week off because they'd been chasing fourth so long.

Warrington have a chance to get control of first place on Friday and it'll be hard for Wigan to chase them down, especially being a game behind at the moment. It would put pressure us going to Leeds the week after to get a result (not easy no matter how poor Leeds look defensively at moment), win and the pressure is off going to Leeds. That's the different and that's what Warrington didn't do last year compared to Wigan.

I just dont get excited about wigan v wire games like i do for saints or leeds..maybe thats just me.

I'm not so sure. You look back in recent home games and despite being champions it's pretty poor stuff from Wigan. Just look back, Michael Maguire does not have a good record in big games at DW Stadium!

Your squad is arguably slightly better than wires, but you can only play 17 of them just like your opposition. If you think you are miles ahead of wire you are kidding yourself as the games between the 2 at the moment are 50/50 and will probably be decided on injuries or a little bit of luck.

I agree, but to overcome a 3 point lead would effectively allow wigan a 2 defeat advantage with only 7 games gone. Thats would not be easilly overcome and would be advantage wigan at this early stage of the year. That is why i said it was a bigger game for wire as a win for them would just be a 1 point advantage over us if we won our game in hand.

not writing hudds off. They will definately be up in the top 3. Don't think that they have the class which wigan and wire do though! Didn't really replace hodgson and I don't think grix is that better, they will need brough and their pack on top form if they are going to be contesting finals!

On Friday, today will certainly add some spice to the fixture, wire fans travel well anyway and I can see today adding 1000 onto their attendance, wouldn't be suprised to see a few of them in the east/west corners towards the north stand.

Sam coming back for us is such a big gain, he just has that bit of extra class about him which roberts seems to be lacking. Lima needs to step up big time though. Our pack has stepped up big time in the big games so far this season, in particular against st george and huddersfield and I just wonder whether after today wigan will have slightly more battle hardened, i mean no disrespect to wakey and quins but they didnt necessarily test warrington over the last fortnight.

However I agree with something Bilko said friday night. We have bought a loss after the last fortnight. We came back from the dead with 12 men against hull and with the 19 we had it was also incredibly difficult on friday. A loss won't be the end of the world as we still have the game in hand! And haven't we actually started this season better than we started last year?

The 2 point win at wire last season set us on our way to winning the league.

I think a 3 point advantage at this time of year would be advantage wigan, hence why wire cannot allow that to happen.

Not all that bothered about the shield. It's nice to win, but it means F all if you don't do the business at OT. I'd be surprised if the top 2 places aren't taken up by our clubs come September.

But if we had won that game then we would have had the same number of points - there isn't much in it but with home field advantage you should be disappointed if you don't win
