| With our abundance of secondrowers, and the possible departure of Carmont at the end of the year, plus Madge's insistence on playing Joel at centre in the recent past. It does appear as though the club are at least contemplating playing him there.
Now obviously there's lot to consider, first of which being is Carmont worth another year beyond this present one? He's been superb so far this year, and like many have stated numerous times he did start his professional career late on.
Secondly, we have a whole host of young threequarters who could be possible replacement's, from Goulding and Charnley, to Marsh and Pryce. And it's important that we don't block their progression within the team.
Finally we have Joel, are most athletic backrower, and just one of numerous options we have to play in the secondrow.
Personally I'd like to see Carmont play on another year after this one, assuming he continues to play well and stay injury free. With Charnley slowly eased into replacing Carmont when he does eventually leave, and if Carmont isn't up to another year I'd still place Charnley there, but he must get plenty of game time at centre this year if that is the plan.
Whilst Joel would make a decent centre imo, I think he's best suited in the backrow and can still offer us decent cover at centre when needed. The nice thing is we've plenty of options, the tough thing being which option we go with.

| I think he has the speed, size and skill to be one of the best british in a long time. Just needs to be coached into it.
With the amount of quality players we have in the second row, I would like to see Joel get more games at centre. Maybe he will if Gleeson is injured.

| I don't see him as an out-and-out centre, but he's more than useful as someone who can fill both roles - a bit like Wild or Gilmour (but much better than either, of course!). It gives us the option of not needing to carry a back on the bench.

Better than Gilmour was at the same age, at least (which is why we let Bradford have him) - I guess time will tell on the rest of his career.

| Carmont was outstanding on Sunday, if he keeps playing like that we'd be mad not to offer him another 12 months.

| I think Joel could be a centre, his speed and footwork at time is class. Needs to be moulded a little but time will tell I guess.

Gilmour was actually voted 'Young Player of the Year' the year we released him. We let him go so we could sign David Furner, if my memory serves. I think Gilmour was every bit the player Joel is at the same age.

| If he'd played centre for the entire match on Sunday I personally feel there'd have been a different winning team. From what I've seen of him I've always thought the negative sides of his game outweighed the positives, but was very impressed with him in the centre birth on Sunday.

A different kind of player though. He was always fast and quick-witted, but never the wrecking-ball that Joel can be on his day. He also got knocked out a lot. Given a choice between the two, I'd go for Joel.

I'm not convinced he'd cut it at Centre, but if he can improve his passing then it could work.

I would too, but I still feel letting Gilmour go was a mistake on our part.

| When Gilmour left didn't he moan that one of the reasons was because the Aussie & Kiwi Wigan players would never pass to him?

| I'm sure with the right coaching Joel could make it as a centre. I'm also sure that a fully fit Joel at centre would have been a better bet to start the game than a less than 100% fit Gleeson. Not saying it would have changed the outcome, but would've helped.

| Must say Joel Tomkins has proved me wrong. As a Cas fan I first saw him on loan at Widnes when we were in NL1 and I thought he was so far behind the much younger Joe Westerman that he had little to offer at SL level. Over the past couple of seasons he has improved beyond recognition and now makes a far bigger impact on games than Westerman although the quality of his coaches and team-mates will obviously have helped. If he could just sort out those shirt-collar tackles he will be something like the finished article...as a backrower (he may be 'found out' as a regular centre but he was pretty good on Sunday when he benefited from an element of surprise).

| Lee Gilmour was very under rated. He was a great wide running second rower with bags of pace in his younger days. If i remember correctly one of the reasons he left was he wanted to play centre and Wigan saw him as a second rower. Joel Tomkins is a good player when hes on form but hes either very good or very poor. Too hot and cold for my liking.
