Has anyone heard Dave Hadfield's comments in the Independent's latest Rugby League podcast?
He reckons Liam Farrell might have been worth selecting for England squad? Too soon do you reckon? www.independent.co.uk/sport/gene ... 39395.html

| I think he would have held his own very well and done well but we have so much talent in the forwards he is behind the likes of O'Loughlin, Joel, Ellis, Burgess, Westwood etc
This has been his first season in SL and if he carries on the way he is he has the potential to be as good as/better than all of those.

| Too many quality players ahead of him at the moment, he needs to find another level if je wants to play back row for England

| If it were an emerging England side he'd be a shoe-in on form. However, there are more senior players in good form ahead of him atm.

| He's good enough but there's a pretty big queue to get in England's back row at the minute

| He is an England player of the future but at present there is to much quality between him and England squad.

| Doesn't look the biggest of forwards i've seen, but he's handfull when he takes the ball up, and very difficult to tackle, reminds me of a young Mick Cassidy.

| Tomkins
Lockers
Ellis
Burgess
Westwood
All ahead of him and probably a few more as well.
Give him two more seasons IMO. Maybe he can sneak in the squad next year.
Unlike most second rowers he has the ability to make consistant breaks through the line whether it be using his strength or his strangely suprising agility.

Good comparison, but he's a lot quicker than Cass ever was.

I keep hearing this comparisson with Cassidy, but I have got to be honest, I don’t see it.
Mick was a frightening defender and was more than happy to make the big runs when needed. I think Farrell has much more to his game. For a start he is rapid for a forward and he runs great lines. His defence is outstanding and he very rarely misses a tackle (not to mention he makes an obscene amount during the game).
I know he is not the biggest player, but he looks so muscular and lean. It is very rare I have seen him out-muscled in the tackle. In that respect (and defensively) I suppose he is similar to Mick, but for my money he will be a much better player and he has the potential to be THE Wigan forward for the next 10 years. He is far more accomplished that Joel was at the same age / experience.
He really is a testament to the youth set-up we have at Wigan.

Totally agree. I think there is much more to Liams game, and no disrespect to Cass,a player who I have huge respect for. Farrell reminds me of a young Paul Gallen not the biggest but very dynamic and hardworking.
