He missed the 1984 final with a broken leg and I think he was 20-21 or so then. I was still at school so would make him late rather than mid 40's. About 47-48 at a guess.

Hampo actually missed three finals, 84, 85 and 88 through injury. He broke down in tears when he scored the try v Saints in 1989 in what was his first Challenge Cup Final appearance.

I think he might be a bit older than 47 - forget the so called "official age" given in programmes etc. He made his debut in 83/84 season. For me he was older than 20 then. He'd been playing rugby union (for Vulcan?) for quite a while. I'd say he was more 49/50.

Same with Sean Long - made his debut ( I think in 94/5 season). How old was he then and how "old" is he now? I'm not sure how old he was claiming to be a couple of years ago, but I must say I didn't think it tallied with what I would have expected.

Hampo's age has always been wrong in any official documents , he is actually a couple of years older than the 'official' age, and there are good reasons for it .

He did sign from Vulcan by the way.

He was on TV this morning and my wife asked how old he was. I said mid to late 40s but she said he looked much older (in the face). Thanks for the help. I'll go with 47, 48 or 49.
