| Few points on this ahead of Saturday:
1) Will it happen ahead of the Grand Final?
2) Would it be a good idea given some of the idiotic fans who turn up for there only game of the season and are tanked up on ale, Given that Newton wasnt a favourite with opposing fan?
3) Would it add extra emotion that our players dont need?

| Has to be some recognition. Perhaps a minutes round of applause with his image up on the big screen might be better. You just know that some clown will shout something during a minutes silence. A normal Wigan/Saints derby would respect a minutes silence I think but Grand Final day tends to attract a fair few idiots and Johnny Come Lately's

That would be my concern, it only takes one idiot, the boo's start and the silence is ruined.
Applause would be a great idea.

| if we are going to do anything it has to be applause as id hate one mindless yob to spoil it.
also think it would be a good touch to get his kids as the mascots show the family how much he meant to our club

| It's also worth remembering that Terry was not loved much in St Helens. And though it wouldn't be their normal reaction to boo, as others have said, SOME will be tanked up by Saturday teatime.
I hate to go down the football route, but I think in this situation a minute's applause would be better.

| I do not see how you can have a minutes applause for something so tragic...but totally agree it would not be a good idea for a minutes silence given some of the idiotic fans (from both clubs) who will be tanked up on beer at 6pm on Saturday evening.
I would like to think our great sport would observe a minutes silence perfectly but I wouldnt put any money on it given the occasion and the fact the majority will be hammered drunk.

| A minutes applause is the best way. I don't particularly like silences if I am honest. Applauding also drowns out the idiots.

| Saints didnt like him but none of them would have wanted this. I disliked Long with a passion but would not wish him harm. I think a minutes silence would be well acknowledged by all.

| Ive never been a big fan of the minutes applause, a silence has been for years the appropriate way to remember someone who gave so much to the sport. Applause is just accepting defeat to the mindless s who go out to disrespect another team's deceased hero. Terry was a Wigan favourite and should be remembered correctly. A big photo of him on the screen and a well observed silence. I hate Sean Long with passion but would never boo him just because he was loved by Saints.
This is Rugby League, not football and we remeber our lost ones properly.
RIP Terry. You will be sorely missed.

| Tricky. I am the opposite. This is Rugby league - a minutes silence is the traditional measure of respect. Generally this is always followed, on the odd time there is a disturbance then the crowd they are in is very good at self-policing.
The problem as outlined above is this is not an ordinary match and Terry was a divisive player (amongst fans anyway). I would have hoped that the fact he wore his heart on his sleeve and never gave less than 100% on the rugby pitch would have won some grudging respect from the oposition.
Everyone else would respect a silence. I think 99.9% of Saints fans would respect a silence. Every club has a few yobs and they will be beered up. The only people who could give us an indication would be Saints fans themselves. Can the overwhelming majority of decent Saints fans police a few yobs in their end of the ground? Might need to ask them.

That'd be a nice touch.
Do they sing that before the GF as well as at Wembley?

+1.
A silence without question, would be ruined on Saturday.

Good idea, a short clip then the above in honour. Judging by pics posted in the TN facebook tribute Saints fans can't be trusted.

Quite agree.
If we had a league match at the weekend a minutes silence would I am sure definitely be observed but at the GF? Asking for trouble and I think the minutes applause would not get any better a reaction.

| Would think a minuits silence might be respected. We have to remember that he not only played for us but leeds Bradford and wakefield. large proportion of the crowd I would think would be supporters from teams he played for. As someone has already said THIS IS RUGBY LEAGUE and as followers we are very good at self policing a miniuts silence

He made a dumb decision, no way should that tarnish his legacy. I don't think of HGH when I think of Terry Newton, I think of a fierce, talented Wigan hooker who would happily give his right leg for that grand final win.

| I would be very surprised if Saints fans couldn't keep quiet for a minute's silence in the circumstances. You're bound to get the odd idiot (from St Helens, Wigan and amongst the neutrals) but I would expect a minute's silence to be well observed in the circumstances.

| This whole sorry episode does raise a serious point about people who take drugs within our game. It is quite easy to castigate said player and think of them as nothing but cheats within the sport but as this tragedy has pointed out we are dealing with a human being.
Although I agree with the punishments that are imposed I would like to know if there are any rehabilitation procedures for players who are banned and whether we as a sport try to get to the bottom of why a player will take drugs and what methods are needed to help that player through his imposed ban.
A man may take drugs and get caught but when that man, severely depressed & away from the norm of his usual career takes his own life it put things into perspective. I hope more is done so to teach players against going down this route but more is done also to stop players possibly following a similar scenario if they are caught.

Well the players union would agree with you (and so do I) but I don't think you can assume being banned was the only thing that led to this tragic event.

| We don't know exactly what happened and thus everything is conjecture, however this shows the human side to a tragic event. It is interesting to take the difference in the way that Gareth Hock has been treated and Terry. I know we are not meant to have any contact with Gareth but it loks like the club wrapped him in cotton wool while at the same time Wakefield just cancelled Terry's contract. It makes you wonder if all was done for Terry and if we as a club or the RFL comunity as a whole could or should have done any more
