The ball landed in touch, so it had to be from where Donald touched Pat. It was never a penalty, the Carmont one was, but was of no use to us.

You are right, but I don't think it was 10 yards to be honest. And like I said, it was never a penalty in the first place, your hero should have been greatful for a shot from 40m rather than 60m. He would have missed either way, the bottler.

I'm not sure Donald's challenge was late - was he already committed to the tackle? A 50/50 call.

However, once the penalty for a late challenge on a kicker was given, I believe it should have been where the ball landed. As this was in touch, it should have come 10 metres infield. Notice how keen Bentham was to tell Alibert where the penalty was - ball was moved back a few yards from where Pat had originally placed it!

Not 100% sure of this - I've only reffed schoolboy rugby union matches in the past 25 years. Certainly in union, the penalty would be 15 metres infield for a similar incident.

Having said all that, Wigan did blow it with too many dropped balls etc.
