Agreed. Should be in control and downward pressure, and then neither would have been given. The irony is when you still here Stevo saying 'Did he have control' 'And was there downward pressure' whilst awaiting the video decision, as evidence would suggest that neither actually matter.

I agree and I think my team have suffered through a lack of it this season too. I think the rules on this matter being as they are or being interpreted as they are make it too easy to be inconsistant though. TBH I thought the try would be given

It was more of a try than Meli's in that Pat had more control of the ball. Certainly if Pat had been chasing a kick and got as much downward pressure on the ball as he did, the try would have been given. That's the difference/anomaly that needs to be rectified. A player should be in control of the ball as he grounds it. Meli certainly wasn't - Pat wasn't totally either, but more so than Meli. Another example of how Wigan has been badly done to in the recent big games.

As far as I can remember, the only "doubtful" try that has been awarded in Wigan's favour was the Karl Pryce one in the corner towards the end against Crusaders when Wigan were already 20 points in front! How nice it would be to get such a decision in a close crucial game!

It was irrelevant as Piggy scored straight afterwards. If the Richards "try" had been given, Piggy wouldn't have scored his.

Agreed it wasn't a try, I think the consternation comes from the fact it was very very similar to Meli's against us that was given - both non tries imo.
