| He had a cracker didn't he Not such a crazy decision after all.
His footwork is outstanding. I've been watching Wigan since around 1999 and he has the best footwork I have ever seen.
Brilliant performance yesterday. What a talented lad. It's amazing to think he is only 21 and midway through his second season. Imagine what he can be like in another five years time

| It seems to me that Sam just added (yet) another string to his bow.
Play him in the halves or move him to FB - Doesn't matter.
It did seem strange though that at one point, we had 3 half-backs (TL, Sam, Deacs) and 2 hookers (Piggy, MMac) all on the field at the same time.
Back to Sam though - His tackling was awesome yesterday, he just seemed so determined not to let Quins get away with anything.

His defence did impress me. IIRC he dropped the ball bringing the ball back, but managed to get back and catch the Quins player. Goulding then at some point made an error and Sam got back and caught him. Our players are working for each other. One player makes a mistake and his team mates cover for him. Excellent stuff.
The only problem with Sam moving to fullback is Deacon didn't look outstanding at six. Playing out of position and just back from injury, but once Roberts is back I think we are stronger keeping Sam at six and moving Roberts to fullback with Goulding on the wing over Pryce IMO.
Next season however I think we would look a lot stronger with:
1. Sam Tomkins
2. Amos Roberts
3. Martin Gleeson
4. George Carmont
5. Pat Richards
6. Brett Finch
7. Thomas Leuluai
Rather than -
1. Amos Roberts
2. Darrell Goulding
3. Martin Gleeson
4. George Carmonht
5. Pat Richards
6. Sam Tomkins
7. Thomas Leuluai
Either way though we look very strong and I know some people will disagree with me. It's an excellent position to be in. Sam Tomkins can always move back to stand off once Finch leaves. Didn't Darren Lockyer play fullback for Brisbane for a few years before eventually moving to stand off?

| I have to ask - What is all this Brett Finch talk, where is it coming from and is he any good?
Forgive my ignorance if it's been asked before, but I just keep seeing his name on here, with no idea of why or if he would improve us (as I don't get to see NRL since the death of Setanta).

| Will he stay there then? playing fullback against Quins is easier then say against Leeds and Saints.

| In attack... Yes. In defence, absolutely not. He was caught out of position quite a few times. I guess that was the reason for Maguire to move Pat to full-back whilst defending and Sam to full-back whilst attacking.
I'm absolutely not struck on the idea. I see no reason why he can't continue to become our stand-off for the next 10 years.

So, in your opinion, did yesterday's experiment not work?
Serious question.

| I think next season we will see Sam move to FB if we can bring in a new half back. If we cant bring in a new half back, then Sam will have to remain at 6. If thats the case though we wont have much of a long kicking game, because Tommy's is poor.

only 2 minutes ago everybody was crying for Amos at FB, the best FB at the club so they where all saying, people need to make their minds up, if it worked or not, Sam imo should stay at 6

| I have to say Amos would be my first choice at 1, i think he is waisted on the wing.
Depending on the balance of the squad I would much rather Sam be in the halves as it stands.

Its all well and good using one performance against a Quins side as a certainty that Sam Tomkins would be an amazing fullback. Whose to say Sam wouldnt have played just as good at six ?... Am i mistaken or did Sam a year younger have a top game at the Stoop last year under Noble ?..
I'm all for it it it works out better for the good of the team, and maybe with the tactics of switching Pat to fullback for Defensive sets it may combat any frailties in Sams game at fb. But does playing Roberts on the wing not limit his attacking ability ? Him and Sam are IMO our most potent attacking players with ball in hand so i still think Sam at 6 and Roberts at 1 is our best option. If we then sign Finch and let Deacon go into coaching we'll have options to rest our Halfbacks/Hookers and keep them fresh for the more important part of the year ie. Playofffs.

Its not often I agree with you (if ever) but Roberts is by far the best 1 at the club and on form prior to injury maybe in the world. He needs to be used at 1. If we intend to bring in another half it must be at the expense positionally of TL.

In his early career. Once he found his way into the halfback role, he mainly stayed there.

When we have a 1 as good as Amos there is no need to use him at 1. The more I think about it the more ridiculous it seems.
Our wingers will score tries regardless of how good they are. Goulding has 18 this year non of which have been too difficult.
Amos is an outstanding 1 we do not need a class winger we need a class fullback and Amos is just that.
