I can only think of a couple of players who I would actually class as heroes, Lam, Barrett, Sinfield, Dobson, Stacey Jones, Cunningham (although I hate him, you can only admire him as well), Peacock, Senior (just for lasting so long at the top), Fielden.

But the biggest hero of all ANDY FARRELL!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say that the Salford fans certainly consider Alker to be a hero for their club, which is what this thread is about. This is not just for what he has done playing wise but also the fact that he always stayed loyal to them even when relegated.

Being honest I don't class very many players from the SL era as being heroes. Yes you need talent, and you need a professional approach, but full time professionalism has brought with it blandness, with off the cuff plays and geniuine creativity stifled.

Add to this the fact that playing rugby is a job now, as opposed to something players do in addition to their normal jobs, and many players are like teachers or policemen - you only have to listen to them talk to know what they do for a living, because they all act, look and talk the same.
