What position would you rather be in right now?

4 points clear at the top of the table, or 4 points behind like wire and saints and in the semi-final?

Personally I would rather be in Saints and Wires postion.
Just interested to get everyones views on this....

Although its is a much harder achievement to win the hubcap then the challenge cup, it is not really recognised as such a huge achievement.

In the semi's, we have no guarantee of winning the league yet but we definately can't win the cup.

In the semi but it is a nice second .

I'm happy enough being in the position we are in, ok we are out of the cup but we lost with great credit in the performance. Even if we had beaten Leeds we may have lost the semi final, so being in a semi is no guarantee of a cup either.

In the league we are in a position where if we lose three of our remaining 12 games the worst we will do is finish 3rd (even if those losses were to Saints, Wire and Leeds). If Wire or Saints lose 3 of their 12 they could wind up 7th. If we win the ties v Saints, Leeds and Wire our position becomes even stronger. The higher your league place, the better your chances are in the playoffs.

Like everyone I would have loved a trip to Wembley and to see us lift the cup but it wasn't to be, it's gone, draw a line under it and move on. The media may have devalued the prestige of the League Leader's Shield but in our current position we have an opportunity to win two trophies. I wouldn't give that up to be playing catch up yet again in the hope of getting one (despite the fact that I have more affection for the Challenge Cup final than the Grand Final).

Just think had Noble still been here we may or may not have beaten Leeds, but we'd have been languishing around ninth in the table waiting for a late rally up the table into fifth.

Semi and 4 points behind is a better position. Good chance of winning both trophies in that situation.

Pointless really, at the end of the say we arent in the Semi and we are 4 points clear at the top so lets not dwell on what we havent got and look forward to the rest of the Super League season.

Absolutely guted we are out of the cup and especialy the way we went down BUT we now get t free weekends prior to the end of the season and we might be glad for them come the play offs. We can now concentrate on the next game and personaly I see it as a better show on the improvement this year to be 4 points ahead than in the semi. Cup glory will come again and I think it is only round the corner but with a bit of close season personell changing it might be sooner but having lived through all the tranistion seasons if we win the grand final in MM transition season I will be more than pleased

The point is, is it better to be in with a chance of both or a commanding position in just one?

It could be worse, it could be last season - knocked out in the Semi and realistically having little chance in winning the GF.

I hope wire put all their eggs in one basket like last season though!

You'll benefit from Saints, Leeds and Wire having the 'distraction' of the cup. 1st or 2nd is definitely well within your reach which should give you a very good chance in the play offs (or whatever they're called now).

Would love to be in the cup, but as the previous poster said, our top three rivals all have the distraction of the cup, chances are at least two of them will be at Wembley so it's up to us to make the most of the situation. Given were we are right now, we really must go on and secure top spot because if we don't it will speak volumes about the ability and mentality of a number of players and will probably dictate whether or not a number of them are offered new contracts.
Interesting times and hopefully the team will come out firing next week. It's up to us to get behind them as well for the rest of the season. We have a couple of big home games to look forward to and hopefully they will set a marker for the playoffs. Despite the results over the weekend I think we can compete with Leeds in any big game, and from what I saw of Warrington they certainly have a number of weaknesses and were anything but impressive yesterday despite the fact that it was an exciting game. Saints are more difficult to call, they are nowhere near as polished as they were but have the stubborn winning mentality that we need to develop. They just do the simple things well and then rely on close in plays from the likes of Cunningham and Eastmond to make the most of them.
All in all, home advantage could be key at the end of the season.

Indeed, what would a Wire fan know about play-offs.

Given that Leeds have won the last three GFs after being eliminated from the Challenge Cup before the final in each season, I'd say there is some benefit in being able to focusing alone on peaking at the right time in SL, a competition where we already hold the advantage and will be in the hunt come the playoffs.

It takes a special team to sustain a successful run in both competitions in the Summer Era, I don't think we are anywhere near that level yet, so I'm quite happy to accept a narrow defeat in the cup to optimise our chances of winning SL for the first time in more than a decade.
