Thanks for your e-mail regarding the 6 April edition of 'Beswick at Breakfast' on BBC Radio Manchester.

We understand that you felt Allan's comments about Amos Roberts' suspected broken leg were inappropriate.

Allan Beswick is very well known as a Warrington Wolves supporter, who are currently battling with Wigan Warriors for the top spot in the Super League. His comments here were in that context, with rivals Wigan Warriors having scored a very convincing win in their match against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on 5 April 2010, thus keeping them at the top of the table.

Allan's unique brand of humour is well known to his BBC Radio Manchester listeners who will appreciate that his comments here about both Wigan and their player Amos Roberts were not intended to be taken at all seriously, but were merely humorous comment borne out of frustration at Wigan's excellent result which kept them above Warrington in the table.

His banter with sports presenter Delyth Lloyd on the subject was clearly light-hearted with Allan in reply being jokily called a "naughty man" by Delyth.

Clearly in no way was Allan actually happy that a player suffered an injury - indeed he was genuinely full of praise for Wigan's performance even though it meant his beloved Warrington were denied the top spot as a result of their win.

The sports report also went on to focus on the incident itself in some depth including commentary clips plus a description of the match and a review of the injury incident with an interview with the team's coach describing it fully.

When he had his phone-in show on the old Red Rose, there was a lad who rang him every night 2 or 3 times and just said 'Skimpy duds Alan! Skimpy duds!' and annoyed the hell out of him. Maybe we should reprise that.

I enjoy a bit of good natured banter with the rest but this is just totally unacceptable. I admire Amos as a player and wish him a fast and full recovery. Before posts like this succeed in derailing this thread into yet more tit-for-tat Wigan v Wire name-calling, can I just remind everyone that the subject is the inane Alan Beswick and how we are going to punish him for his comments about Amos's injury.

i think it was my comment that irritated him. i wasn't meaning to offend any warrington fans, i was only making a joke!

That's the standard BBC answer. I complained to them about sensationalising the snowy weather we had a few months back (bit of a joke, but I did raise a few good points

) and it follows exactly the same response.

They basically reply with what you have told them and add the additional stuff to bulk it up; whilst also completely covering their backs.

Ahh. BBC in above answering to the people shocker.

The sooner the license fee is abolished the better.

Beswick is just an annoying, ignorant, bigoted, 'know it all', loudmouth, of the type that seems to festoon the airwaves. Why these radio stations think we need to hear the politically correct drivel from these clones, I have no idea. Don't listen to him is what I say.

Standard, stock reply from the BBC. I saw my over comments made by Gabby Logan in respect of Gareth Thomas and how he had been given a fair go by RU since 'coming out'. Now he was switching RL, he could be susceptible to homophobic abuse.

"it's been such a big year for him, after announcing that he was gay, which in itself is a huge thing in his life, this is obviously a massive move for him...do you think there are fears that he might become a target for homophobic abuse from rugby league fans? To be honest I can't believe anybody could take his comments seriously, I know Beswick is an aggravating git but then again his remark was obviously tongue in cheek. Think this is a mountain/mole-hill scenario.
