An interesting read that, and good, positive quotes from Ainey and Maguire.
To be fair to Wigan, it's difficult to see where we could play him at present. Dropping Goulding would be the obvious ploy, but that would be unfair given how well he's played in the last couple of matches.
At least Ainscough is not in a similar position to Karl Pryce, who seems to have dropped right off the radar this season.

| Pryce will definately be gone at the end of this year imo.
He is no where near challenging for a first team spot and i would be surprised if he made any 1st team appearances this year.
The interesting bit will be Goulding. Hopefully he will sign again as i think he adds good depth and cover to the threequaters.
Ainscough has a further year to run of his contract, but with Stefan Marsh, Josh Charnley, ian Thornley and even Jonny Walker who can cover the three quaters we have depth and competition for places which may prove to be too tough for Pryce to overcome.

| with his speed and his fancy footwork could he not be made into a scooting hooker? surely somebody with such explosive speed would be a handful running from the play of the ball, besides i can't see him getting a game on the wing as long as Richards and Amos are on the wings and in fine form

| Aren't hookers meant to be defensively sound too? Glad we've extended the deal, the longer he's here the better for us, imo.

because he ain't gonna get a game on the wing in the foreseeable future, not with Pat "The Postman" Richards & Amos "Fancy Feet" Roberts playing like they are, the only other way he is going to get a game on the wing is he goes elsewhere

The scooter hooker is killing Rugby League. Why do we want another hooker who can't pass?

You're absolutely right - after all, we've only got two specialist hookers and a world cup winner ahead of him at dummy half.

| Spot on, move Ainscough to hooker and get rid of who?? Leave him at Cas where he will get experience and if we need him due to injuries then we can recall him.
As for Pryce, why he ever got a new contract is beyond me!!

Agreed. At the moment he doesn't offer us anything over Richards/Amos.

| Leave him where he is, he is playing SL which is what both the club and Ainscough need.
If Richards or Roberts were to get injured they will have Ainscough back here like a shot then we will have another SL calibre winger in the squad.

this the problem though, do we sign Ainscough on for another 3 year then loan him out for 2 year because the wingers we already have are to good, just in case one gets injured?

I'd have no problem with Wigan doing something similar to what Saints have done with Scott Moore and keep signing Ainscough up to new deals whilst loaning him out to other teams until we have a place to fit him in here.
He's too good a player to not play first team but he isn't as good as Roberts or Richards. He'll eventually be a fine replacement for one of them though and we need to make sure he's still here when that place does become available.

| I'm a really big fan of Ainscough and would have him in the Wigan team even if it meant a bit of a re-jig but I suppose Cas is the next best thing. This quote gave me a lot of hope as I was starting to think he'd give up on us:
Quote ="Michael Maguire"He's a Wigan boy, and a big part of our future plans.....He's really putting pressure on the players in the team, with the way he has been representing himself at Castleford, and it's something that is continually assessed.'"

It's nice to keep hearing from Maguire that Ainscough is in his plans. He's too good a player not to be considered a good long term bet for us here at Wigan. Alot of people concentrate on his flaws too much imo. He has a couple of things he needs to work on but as a finisher he's electric and a natural. He has ability you just can't coach and hopefully Maguire can work with him in the long term to help him brush up on the things he needs to.
These loan spells will only help him also. We have no place for him here at the moment and there is no need to do any sort of re-jig because the side is playing so well but that may be something we need to look at further down the track.

Is that the one you talk out of?
So you'd rather play a winger with known areas of his defence to work on at hooker ahead of a specialist one and one who won the world cup?
