| Just to rub a bit of extra salt into the wound, I got a £50 parking ticket last night. The ticket says it was for not displaying a P&D ticket, but I was told where I was parked wasn't P&D! Can anyone confirm this for me as I am going to contest the ticket, or am I waisting my time. I've indicated roughly where I was Parked.

There is a warning on there about parking on robin park carparks. I know there was something in the paper a while back about bringing in pay and display and or clamping on those carparks due to match traffic using them but i don't know what the current setup is (whether it is pay and display for everyone or whether they are just watching for people in colours etc.).

| People who go to Gala bingo on match days are told to park at the top end were you parked, as it's free there. Whether you can contest it is open for debate as you didn't go to Gala. It's worth a try though I suppose. Tell them you were at the bingo, they can't prove you wasn't.

If it's from a PPC (Private Parking Company) you can pretty much get away with not paying it. I have had one of these before at University and all I did was ignore their correspondence and then eventually sent them a cease and desist letter.
What is the company called that gave you this ticket? Also, does it mention you 'entered into a contract' when you parked there?
If it does, just ignore it. If they get your details from the DVLA, they will hound you with letters and potentially phone you and act like they are sending bailiffs round. They will also threaten you with court etc..
If it's from Wigan Council, you'll have to pay it.

Have a good read of both of those links and decide what you want to do. Like I said, if it's from the council, you'll have to either pay it or contest it properly. Anything other than that, make your own mind up - I will never pay private tickets.

yes only on game days. A pick up brings a mobile ticket machine on a trailor. dont know about the footpath divides the free bit and the pay and display bit though

I did. Rules are there for a reason and there is justification in the fine. Uploading an image of the fine onto a rugby forum doesn't help the case if, for instance, one says they weren't there for the rugby

| They only charge on matchdays - think the £5 is redeemable at the counter in the cinema/bingo etc; the car parks belong to the retail/leisure rather than the stadium. Think they had complaints before bringing the charges in that their patrons were struggling to park on a matchday.

It's quite simple to get away with a parking ticket from a private company. They are rarely enforceable. You could easily deny you were driving the car as the registered keeper is not legally obliged to inform them who was driving. The fact that they only charge on matchdays says it all about the company. Ignore it like piemandan says.
P.S. can you change your sig? It's complete ****.

| Please, please, please don't pay it. It's from a PPC - they will threaten you with all sorts, but it's not a fine, it's an invoice. There is no legal right that they can take any money from you.
It's just the same as me asking you for £30 - you could give it to me, but you don't have to. Have a good read of those links I posted and wait until they contact you (which they might not, because it costs them around £20 to get the info from the DVLA) when they do contact you, ignore it and wait for the next letter. Send them one back asking them to prove you were the driver.. ( they won't, but they will send you another letter threatening you)
Send them a cease and desist letter and that is that.

+1 The more people who pay these 'fines' the more they will start to spread and soon you wont be able to park anywhere for free (apart from your own drive). It's easy money for them as it effectively costs them nothing.
This doesn't mean I support people parking where they like and not being accountable to paying parking fees. In genuine mistakes such as this though I believe the fine should be in proportion to the revenue lost by the land owner + costs of the firm issuing the ticket.
