Did anyone spot the new "official countdown clock" last night?

It was supposed to be in the West Stand, but from the South, I could see nothing.

Did anyone in the East Stand spot it?

No

It broke my dads heart that there was no clock after being promised one at the fans forum



He could hardly watch the game for looking and just grumbled throughout the game. He nearly bit my head off when i asked him how long was left.............."how do i know there was meant to be a clock but I don't see it"..........was his response.

Lenagan best get that clock up for next Friday or I don't think he'll stay for kick off.

I was so looking forward to actually knowing how long was left, and I thought that the clock was some sort of requirement now?

On top of that, I couldn't listen in to the ref's for some reason.

So I'm just glad that we actually won, otherwise it would have been a complete wash-out.

The new large clock was mounted on the West Stand on Friday with the sponsors logo "Anker" highly visible. Unfortunately the clock was mounted next to the DW sign and caused much embarrassment for Mr Whelan.

Digital Watch. They are a great 1980s invention. Their is a reason I do that anyway.

The league announced they will be at all non tv games. I imagine they aren't ready yet but will appear soon enough.

The RFL had hoped to be able to get clocks in for the season commencing but it has nor been possible to get them in at all non TV games this week. They expect to take delivery of clocks for all grounds in the next 7 - 10 days.

This friday vs Hull KR we will have use of the Sky Big Screen which will have a countdown clock as part of the display.

We will then have our own permanent countdown clock situated in the West Stand for the Catalans home game (26th February)

I appreciate that this isn't controlled by the club, but it's just typical of the RFL to insist that something is compulsory and then not to deliver on their own ruling.

Farcical mismanagement from Red Hall yet again.

I have always thought that a clock positioned in the North stand would be ideal for the fans... All home fans could see it there.

It doesn't suprise me in the slightest that this is an RFL mistake. The sooner we get a complete overhaul at Red Hall the better IMO.

Apparently this isn't allowed, as it would give an advantage to the team attacking that end. (They would be able to see the clock at all times, whilst the opposition would have to turn away from play to check).

Agreed, the game is going backwards at an alarming rate in terms of leadership, but with Wood & Cummings in key positions, its hardly suprising.

We saw massive improvement when Lewis took over, as he was top line in his field, but as his involvement lessens, we seem to be going back to the old days.

It is unfair to blame the RFL for there being no clock on friday.

At present there are only 3 in the country which are being rotated around the various grounds.

We possibly could have had the clock on friday albeit on a temporary basis. It would have had to have been situated in a temporary position and then taken out. Such was the expense, manpower and paperwork (risk assessments, health and safety etc) that is was deemed on Thursday (jointly by the club, stadium and RFL) to concentrate on getting the permanent clock in for the Catalans game.

As stated the Hull KR game next week will see the Sky Big Screen used for the countdown clock.

Having experienced countdown clocks in the Guinness Premiership during my time at Newcastle Falcons I can say they are a fantastic addition to match days. During tight games they really add to the excitement at the end of each half and they can assist in preventing mishaps with the hooter/final whistle.
