[iMillward did reveal that the Centurions had tried to sign Wigan Academy front row man, Ben Davies.
"He would benefit from first team football, and since he is a Leigh youngster, who played with Leigh East, and goes to college in Leigh, we had hoped that Wigan would help out their neighbours," added Millward.
"But then we find out they have let him go to Widnes instead. That was a real sickener for us."[/i

| It was in the Observer that he was going to one of the 2 on loan.
It'll be a great move for him and us especially if we can call him back at short notice. I'd have thought they'd have let him move to Leigh though with him being a Leyther.

No, I was asking who you'd rather have looking after one of our youngsters.

Ahhh I wondered what you meant.
It's a tough call isn't it. On one hand you have an Australian nutbag who's likely to play his props on the wing or at fullback and then on the other you've got a guy who'll probably ramble on that much Davies will get bored and nod off in the changing room before games kick off.
On second thoughts lets get him back and send him to Barrow

I'm glad he's going to Widnes rather than Leigh. I can see Widnes being genuine challengers for both the NRC and the Championship while I think Leigh will finish second bottom or thereabouts.

And the decision for us not to loan him to Leigh becomes quickly justified.

| Nice to see the lad will get some game time at a higher level, and all the better if it's on a deal where we can call him back with just 24 hours notice.

| We owe Leigh and Millward absolutely nothing.
We've already helped them financially with two pre-season games at their place and we halped them out a couple of years ago with Bryn Hargreaves and Paul Prescott. I think he has alot of cheek poking his nose in on behalf of Leigh to come out with that quote.
Anyway, I wouldn't feel comfortable with any of our youngsters being under Millwards wing.

| Maybe the history betwween Millward and Wigan was a factor in Davies moving to Widnes instead? Cullen does waffle, but I think the lad will learn more from him than he would have done from Millward.

| To be honest I am not bothered which club he went to, both those coaches are in my opinion SL standard coaches who made some errors in there time towards the end of there tenure in Sl and both will be better coaches for making those errors.
Millward did a great job at every club except Wigan, and in hindsight, it was never going to work with him at Wigan, too much history.
Cullen may waffle on a bit but again he has proven himself to be a good coach, again in my opinion his only major failing looking from the outside in was that he became too close with a core section of his players and the working relationship with the group faltered.
I think both will be back in SL one day.
Regards who i would like Davies to work under it would have to be Millward, he has a habit of adding to Props games, look at the way Anderson, Mary and Fozzard flourished under him.
I am confident though, with the full facts at there disposal the club will make the right call in sending him to whichever club they choose.

To some degree I agree but at Widnes he'll be playing with a much higher standard of player. That can only improve his game.

| Even ignoring the Millward factor, it's a no-brainer for the player to go to Widnes rather than Leigh, who are effectively a NL2 side.

But personally i would like my lads to go on loan and really see and feel the hardship, especially a Prop. I think it would be more beneficial for him to really have to fight in every game rather than have a couple of difficult games followed by a few games that are no contests.

| Has hehad any first team game time or has anyone see him play?
Incidently Stuart Wilkinson is a senior coach at Widnes and has a great track record in player development from his Leeds days.
