Just got an email from the RFL offering tickets for Wembley, Murrayfield Magic and Old trafford. £49 for the lot ( budget seats).Pretty good offer that. For those with a bit more dollar to spare £149 for the best seats at all three events. If that doesn't get the grounds full nothing will. Good stuff from the RFL for a change

IMO the RFL should be trying to sell the Cup Final and Grand Final as premium "events", not holding bargain basement desperation sales 8/9 months before the events.

With a bit of investment in promotion and marketing, they could sell out the grounds with higher priced tickets rather than running this type of price promotion.

The answer isnt always price cuts.

but not everyone can afford higher priced tickets. doesn't matter how you dress it up and market the product, if you dont have the money you cant buy the ticket. It looks like this offer will be limited to x amount of seats so regular priced tickets will be on sale as normal but i feel that this will help those that are short of cash have a good rugby exprience without worrying about their bank balance. for those that cant justify spending money on tickets,hotels, petrol, food and drink, i think its a very good offer and a very good idea.

I don't think it's a bad idea to be honest. This type of promotion could get anyone through the doors, whereas a high percentage of media promotion and marketing gets ignored.

by reducing the prices like this, you reduce the perceived value of the product i.e. RL is seen to be an inferior product to sponsors, broadcasters and potential supporters.

All this will do in the long term is reduce both attendances and revenue as more and more people wait for the latest offer to be released, and when there are no offers they just wont bother going.

I applaud the RFL for coming up with new marketing initiative, but this one seems a bit too badly thought out and short-termism, especially when the GF is still 9 months away and we have absolutely no idea who might be playing in it.

broadcasters already know the value of the product, Sky provide coverage and radio coverage is limited anyway. There isn't a sponsor alive that will back a club without doing their homework regardless of the PERCEIVED image. and as for supporters, you could look at the other side of the coin, we may get supporters through the gates for the first time to sample rugby league because of the price and see what a fantastic game we follow and become fans for life which could increase future attendances regardless of the price of tickets.

who is this offer being marketed to then? potential supporters, or existing members of the RFL database? i can guess which one, because I had the email, and you had the email - but surprisingly no-one I know who isnt an ardent RL fan has heard of the offer.

We are people who are loyal RL fans - i.e. we have bought and paid for tickets before without needing the offer in the past.

It's all a bid to get more fans the Magic Weekend and I applaud the RFL. When you consider there's the Crusaders and Catalan that weren't here a few years ago the expenses of RL fans has rocketed so things must get a tad cheaper to get bums on seats at all major events and long distance matches.

The Rhinos do similar offers such as Silver & Gold memberships allow you free entry to the Challenge Cup 4th round and Juniors free until the Qtr Finals. On top of this they also offer 50% off magic weekend tickets.

Good stuff IMO.

As for the question about who the promotion is aimed at i think it is aimed at current fans with the hope new fans will attend with them because of the price.Lets be honest about this, our sport isn't big enough to suddenly get thousands of people suddenly saying " i know ill go watch a rugby league game " there is the exception to the rule but ordinarily this doesn't happen. Our game is watched by loyal fans that have been introduced to it through family tradition or because schools play it or friends watch it. By promoting the sport to current fans who attend games at a cheap price the hope is that we will bring new people to the games in the hope they fall in love with the sport and become lifetime supporters of it.

I bet you'd be dead chuffed if your Saints Season Ticket went up by £100 just so it could be "Perceived" that a Saints ticket would make your club seem more Exclusive and in turn attract more speccies & More sponsors?

Can't find anything on the RFL site. Shame cos after telling a few people there are at least five of us who'd buy that package right now.
