There's an interesting theory on pain/vision. It says that pain is mostly mental not physically and unless you know you're hurt you don't really feel pain. There are some interesting theories about it knocking about online.

Always said with Hock 'No Brain, no pain' and thats goes for plenty of other rugby league players.

Thats a shocking accident for Terry Matterson though. He gives me one of my saddest rugby league memories when I think of his touchline conversion for the London Bronco's that cost us the league in the end but I wouldn't wish a missing finger on him!!

Apparently this type of injury is very common in amateur football. It normally happens when someone jumps up to 'throw' the nets over the cross bar, gets their wedding ring stuck on the small net hooks on the crossbar and bingo 4 finger shuffles!

It happened to my old plumbing tutor, his wedding ring got caught on a nail in a fence when he jumped down off it and ripped all the skin off his finger, now it looks like a hairy lion bar.

I know Mr Matterson from his Broncos days. He's not soft. What I like is that he was back at work the day after, apparently

them theories are complete . I can vouch for that having broken my femur and various other bones

There are ppl though who have broken bones and not known about it (sports people esp)

Jason Roberts broke his leg when Latics won promotion and played on it for around an hour and only realised back in the changing rooms later on.

The thought of anybody losing any limbs absolutely knocks me sick! Can you imagine the shock??

Plus, a paper cut only hurts when you notice it. I know it's nothing like a broken bone... But that's a much higher degree of pain so you're obviously more likely to feel it. I think sportsmen not feeling pain as much will have something to do with the high level of adrenaline and endorphines.
