| Rugby League NEEDS a Wigan V Saints final. Wigan/Saints games always creates attention for our sport, and any combination other than this will make the final a damp squib.
I mean, who wants to see Huddersfield play Warrington in RL's showpiece event? WHo wants to see Huddersfield play anyone? Who even cares about Huddersfield?
Discuss.

| I'd have to agree mate, it's what the rfl and probably BBC want, but we've both got very hard games to make it happen.

Who, other than fans of RL know that RL was born in Huddersfield? The media would look at that and throw it in the bin.
No, the media thrives of rivalries, spats and percieved 'hatred'.
In any case, Hudderfield is just a nothing Yorkshire town that no one cares about, and other then being the site of the George, offers nothing except the odd cobbled motorway.

Then it's the ideal time to tell them isn't it?

| I think Huddersfield will be a very difficult obstacle for any of the other three teams to overcome. The Saints v Hudds semi - I make it even money.
A Saints v Wigan final? Personally I'm bored with that fixture, and I'm sure the wider public must be getting bored with it too, especially when in recent years Saints have always romped it.
In fact, this Saints dominance may well be a problem for those trying to sell the game, whoever they end up playing. The last few finals have been reminiscent of Wigan in the 90s in that the outcome was always a dead cert. I'm not sure the Beeb will want Saints anywhere near the final this year.
I admit that Warrington vs Hudds doesn't sound too sexy, but Wigan v Hudds. Yeah, that would cook for me.

No. For the reasons stated above. Plus it reinforces the 'northern cloth cap' stereotype that we should be trying to distance ourselves from a bit.

Maybe for you, and no one is doubting it will be a good game for those already watching it. But is it a 'sexy' fixture that will get people wanting to watch it before it comes around? No.
Wigan V Saints is like Man U v Liverpool. Wigan V Hudds is like Man U v Wigan Athletic. No one cares.

You lot really are stuck in the 1990s arent you. What gives you the impression that nobody cares aobut Huddersfield the team currently sitting in 3rd place in the table.
What the RFL NEEDS is the 2 best teams teams in the final if that is Wigan and Saints so be it and im sure it would be a great final. As would Wire v Hudds if they win there games at the weekend.

Probably the fact that they're third in the table and still struggle to register with ordinary people as a force. Outside of the RL world, no one has heard of Huddersfield Giants. They've heard of Wigan and St Helens, though.
This is RL's showpiece event, so they need the two star names there. It's like trying to sell the new hollywood blockbuster with John Smith and Jane Jones starring, instead of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

I got accused of having a chip on my shoulder the other day and this probably wont help, but like it or not Wigan are still seen as a big club to the non rugby fan.
And to be fair people in Huddersfield dont really care about Hudersfield. With half price season tickets, didnt they only sell like 3% more.
Now im not saying they wouldnt sell their allocation for Wembley, but Wigan Saints or Warrington Saints will be seen as a much bigger tie.

| Think Warrington vs Saints is the RFL's Dream Tie this year. Mainly due to the travelling following, if Wigan reached the final, we'd yet again see returned allocations.

| This is a great post
I think that Wigan and Saints should be given their own 2 team league to play in each season.
You could have 6 or 7 regular season games culminating in a Challenge Cup at Wembley and a Grand Final at Old Trafford.
Hope you get your wish my pie munching friend - the world will be a better place

| I think the BBC would want two teams in the final whose towns are Rugby League through and through.
Huddersfield- The place that RL was born
Saints- True Rugby town
Warrington- True rugby town
IMO, it wont do anything for the sport if a football town gets into the Challenge cup final. Football gets enough press

You mean YOU dont care about it, what about huddersfield fans??? You speak for yourself, and your making yourself look like an idiot. The teams that win deserve to get there, if it was 'what the bbc wanted' then what would be the point in other teams playing it. Another biased wigan fan, and i know most wigan fans are ok, but you my friend need waking up

It gets quite expensive having to go to the final 12 times in 25 years.
If you only go every Preston Guild, its bound to be a novelty for a small village like yours so the bandwagoners are bound to snap up the tickets.
