I just watched it on Sky+ as i only got in from work a 21.30. It was a blatent attack to the head with his elbow. Having played rugby for 12 years it can only have been intentional as you just don't do that accidently.

It was a shocking play. No attempt to make a legal challenge, he simply threw the elbow intentionally trying to fell Tomkins, one of the worst i have seen.

i have seen boxers throw a simillar "punch" in pro bouts, a loose punch with a big elbow follow through, could have easily broken Tomkins jaw.

Although it was a shocking challenge, I am pretty sure had Fielden taken that shot there would not of been such a reaction from the fans or the other players. The fact it was Sam Tomkins made the anger even worse tbh he is our best young prospect having a good game and all the players protect him whenever anything happens. Don't get me wrong though it was still shocking.

Did anyone notice that Ganson did not signal a penalty initially? nor did the touch judges flags raise. Only when the Wigan players moved in for retaliation did Ganson blow, chat to the touchjudges then send him off.

4 or 5 is given for serious foul play. I think it is worse then that. IMO what you need to look at is intent. A swinging arm/High tackle, however bad it looks can easily be a mistake, unintentional caused be tiredness ect. What happened tonight can only be described as an intentional attack and should be punished with very lengthy bans (Newton on Long for example). On the quins site some of them are saying he has a nasty streak.

It was a horrible, cheap and dirty shot that could have caused the lad a very serious injury.

If you watch it again Ganson had given a forward pass then it can be seen on the replay as soon as he made contact he blew the whistle again. There is no way Ganson would send him off just cos big brother retaliated.

He didn't react to the incident though. I'm sure he either had a sneaky look at the replay on the screen or was informed of the incident through his earpiece.
