Some interesting things hes said there...
Quote It was pretty demoralising for the Under-21s when I was there as people thought they weren't getting any chances.'"
Anyone know whos still at the club from when he was in the U21's and who left around that time?
Just hope players like Mossop/Farrell/Thornley etc dont end up feeling the same..

| It's true.
Instead of promoting juniors, we decided to sign Jordan James, Tim Jonkers, Oliver Wilkes and Liam Botham...But I wonder which Australians he's refering to?

| Quote "It is massively positive that we are seeing this because when I was there, in Brian Noble's first year, we were nearly getting relegated.
"Yet players were getting picked in front of me who weren't playing that well while I was playing well in the Under-21s.
"It felt like they were getting picked just because they were Australian.
"I reached a point where I decided I'd had enough.
"I couldn't get to see when I was going to get a break so I told the club I fancied a change.
"I just knew I had to leave to get first-team rugby and I have played first-team rugby almost ever since.
"It was the right move for me to leave Wigan and I love it at Wakefield but I am glad to see things finally changing at the JJB.'"
He will be most likely referring to Ian Millward.
But I get the feeling this applies to Darrell Goulding big time.

As he also says in Nobles first year we were fighting relegation and he had to pick his most experienced squad. Can you imagine the uproar on here if he had picked youngsters and we would have gone down due to there mistakes. and he was also trying to put some structure in the youth setup which we had been neglecting over the past 8 or so years.

This is wrong. All these are forwards so none of them were keeping Gleeson out. Plus, as you say, he refers to "australians". Plus he specifically says it was during the Noble era. Plus who are the youngsters we could have played in the pack? Tomkins, O'Carroll and Prescott were about 17-19 then and nowhere near ready for anything more than a couple of games a season. Also, weren't both Lockers and Hock injured during this time?
Millward got lots of things wrong and may even have been guilty of not giving Gleeson a chance (not sure here TBH) but not for the reasons you have given.

| I'm afraid Gleeson suffered from the same problem that Kevin Brown and to some extent Chris Ashton did.
They got into the first team and thought they had "made" it. They should have realised that they were just on the first rung of the ladder.

To be fair he was the one to give Gleeson a chance it was at Salford and a sky game but i think it was more of a publicity stunt more than anything. Like when he played Scott Moore in the Good Friday game to make him the youngest player to play in Super League

Millward played Gleeson at fullback in the 75 - 0 Cup game at Saints, despite Gleeson never having played there in his rugby career.

Remember being stood there on the crumbling steps thinking have we trained together this week. We could have done better then by just picking 17 from the crowd and playing them. The best thing from that year was the second half of the season when Noble came and the fans got behind the club big time some of the best times i have had supporting the club great memories that will live with me forever.

| A good coach will create a good balance between 3 tiers at a RL club.
-Youth players coming through (Think Ainscough Tomkins)
-Established players who have been brought through the youth team (Think Hock, Lockers)
-And players we bring in (Think Gleeson, Roberts, Riddell etc)
For me this is how the system should work-
The bulk of the team, if possible consists of established players who have come through the Wigan system, you fill in the gaps with young emerging talent from the club then fill in the gaps with players brought in. If this is the system the CAP can be well worked and development and progression of younger players will happen.
You look within your own club first before elsewhere, only sign players for positions we can't fill with our own players.
For example
1
2
3
4
5 Ainscough Youngster
6 Tomkins Youngster
7
8
9
10
11 Hock EST
12 Tomkins EST
13 Lockers EST
------
14
15 Hansen EST
16
17
As you can see with Wigan there is a large amount of signed talent at the clubs to fill in the gaps. I would like to see the club to look more within before outward when developing our team.

Ok so he's not an Aussie but he's from down that way and he'd be keeping SG out of a jersey.

| If the team would have looked more inward over recent years we could have had a team of:
Briscoe
Richards Gleeson Carmont Ainscough
Tomkins Robinson
Fielden/Scully Newton O Carroll
Hock Wild
Lockers
------------
Feka Prescott Tommy Tomkins
Also with Chris Aston ready to play as a utility back.

| I can't really remember Gleeson playing that much, in fact looking at cherry and white he only played 7 times so we can't say if he was good or bad. I think his article is overall pretty fair.
He's a solid player now for Wakey and I've seen him at most Wigan home games so good luck to the lad.

He was given a surprise debut aged just 17 early on by Ian Millward in a televised away match at Salford but the club collapsed on after that win with the two records defeats that soon followed (he played in the 75-0 match). For him he was just coming through at a bad time. Had he been more patient he may have made it here but who knows.

Let's be honest, he'll playing regular 1st team action at Wakey, and he isn't particularly impressive.
An average SL player.
But the points about youth development were a good read.

Thats why Karl isn't a first team regular at superleague level then.
Sean Gleeson isn't good enough for Wigan............end of.

I'm pretty sure Gleeson didn't come off the back of a massive injury as Pryce did.
Regardless, I don't see your point. Gleeson isn't good enough for Wigan, if Karl Pryce is, is yet to be determined.
