| Improvement. Defence was solid. The main thing Noble needs to do now is concentrate on attack and get rid of Fielden.
I for one was expecting a 20 - 30 point drumming, but im happy with tonight.

| Fielden was pretty awful.
Even though we lost, i'm not really disappointed, that was a massive performance from Wigan.

| Thought tonight was a good effort from Wigan, and I can take defeats as long as the effort is there. A massive improvement in my opinion. There are still aspects to improve on, we did miss a few opportunities, such as when we had 3/4 consecutive sets of 6 in front of the Saints line, we should have scored from that. But overall I thought we did well and was expecting us to lose by a lot more than 7 points

I'm more disappointed than I thought I would be, simply because we more than matched them tonight. We hit harder in defence, ran well and were dominant throughout - we just lacked it when it counted in attack and when Saints got some open play. I really thought we could win it.
That said, they won it on a lucky bounce, and I would've given Hock's try.
Well done. Proud of yer!

| We were so much better tonight. Massive improvement across the board.
We need to back it up against Catalan and go to France and win.

You don't. As you quite rightly point out you won. However, I think only the most blinkered of Saints fans would argue that you weren't outplayed tonight and had we had the 'bounce of the ball' would have won quite easily. Maybe you find that an irrelevance, but as we haven't been playing particularly well, we don't....

Not a Saints fan, but no, you didn't deserve to win,Thats reserved for the team with the most points Ainscoes second try was a mile forward( sky plussed it and it was at least 5m forward), Tompkins clearly raking the ball out of Pauleta's grasp, ref missed massive knock on, Hock was short and double movement. you had no invention up front as was shown by the 5 sets on saints line, you've played 2 games more than everyone else, and your still outside the top 8, its a good job there is no relegation.

| How on earth can we play like we did last night after how we did against Barrow. Wigan are the most frustrating RL team in the world.
Is this another flash in the pan or can we kick on?

Exactly, we played very well against a poor Bradford, we played superb last night against a resolute Saints team but play like cack for a lot of other games.
The players need to look at themselves in the mirror as they are cheating themselves, us and Noble when they play poor.
We know they are capable of far more than they have shown and last night they showed what they can do.
As for flash in the pan, you know it

| If...
Leuluai had passed to Phelps when clear
Piggy's pass inside had gone to hand
Hock's try had been given
Roberts(who had his best game) had taken his two chances from kicks
But we need to kick more near the line against Saints because they come out (offside) so quickly, it always works which is why Ainscough scored the first with comparative ease. Yes, I'd kick them to death.

Just to clear up the bit in bold:
As most on here know, I like to listen to the refereeing team and AFTER the try had been awarded, they went back and looked at the "forward" pass (as we all know, he can't rule out a try for it anyway).
Anyhow, he looked at it again, just to check, and declared that it was (and I quote) "Absolutely fine".
There you go.
As for the double-movement, I think he would have got there anyway without moving the arm, but as it was, I have no complaints with the decision.
Just a littlemore composure near their line and we'd have racked up another 2 or 3 tries tonight.
I'm happy with the effort, if not the scoreline (although as soon as I heard that Pat was out, I expected a cricket-score)
Special mention to Cameron Phelps - Solid at the back (apart from the one "knock-on" that clearly rolled backwards). Especially after quite a long time out through injury.
We must have more solid Full-backs now than any other club.
Between Pat, Amos and Cameron, we have ample cover for the turnstyle that was/is Richie Mathers.
Overall - If we can keep playing like that, we won't lose many matches this year. It's just a question of whether the team can motivate themselves to play that way against Celtic, Catalans, Wakefield, etc..

| Only one thing to add to what has already been said if Roberts had been 2 foot behind Gleeson when he off loaded into touch he would have had a walk in. Gleeson drew the and wing in and offloaded pity Robers is not used to that just yet just wait till they click. Thought the commitment from all on the pitch last night was great we never gave in and gave 100% for the full 80 was good to see.

| Yes there was an improvement but that's nothing less than i would expect for a derby game. Our defence was pretty solid in the middle of the park but our goalline defence is fragile to say the least. Also we are absolutely clueless in attack. We are sooooo predictable going forward. Almost every set in the saints half we tried to get hock in the centres to create something and every time saints had it covered. We don't have a player who can unlock a tight defence at the moment. TL certainly can't and how he was voted MOM is beyond me. Saints were there for the taking and we blew it.

This is vital, we need to go on a run now, including winning in Scotland. We have to go a a 10 game ish winning run to haul ourselves into a decent position.

| I'll just say the same as I did on the other thread.
Wigan won't be far off if we can get to that standard consistently. We'll only get better as well when the under performers get shown the door and some decent recruitment.
The loss of Cunningham to Saints will hurt them hugely. He and the fact that he had a bigger, stronger pack were the main reasons why Saints won that game. That won't be the case in the next couple of years.
Keep the patience, our time will come.

No don't get me wrong I texted Jukesays after the game saying I didn't think we deserved to win, we made a lot of silly errors and should have been beaten. However, it's the mark of a champion team to find ways to win in games like that.

Spot on, Phelps had a good game last night IMO. I like the kid, he doesn't half put his body on the line! Always willing to take it up, runs hard, might not be the best tackler 1v1, but always takes the man with the ball. Solid and dependable.
I don't agree with you about the knock on, he wasn't facing his own line, and tbh, just pick it up cleanly! School-boy. Even if it did go backwards, Thalor wiped the tackle count clean in the second half when it was a clear knock on by Sam so it evens up I guess
I was pleased last night, our defense was outstanding, but watch Cats but 40 on us now! If last season is anything to go by, we will need to wait a few weeks until we see that defensive performance agian
