| I had decided to watch Wigan away from home this season after being a season ticket holder for many years but after Sunday I have decided I don't want to go to Hull.
I think all of you who will be there are deserving of the utmost praise or is it me who is fickle.
I don't mind them losing, it's just how they lose that depresses me. Am I wrong?

The key is to travel away drink and be merry. It blanks out the misery.

We don't drink. So if it all goes pear shaped tomorrow night then it's a journey of quiet misery back from Hull

Its this type of response from the fans that makes me laugh. We lose one game, the first game of the season and now you dont want to make the trip this week.
Being a fan is about taking the rough with the smooth. Your jumping ship after just one game.
A true fan doesnt pick and choose games, you support your team no matter what.
And have a bloody good time whilst doing it !!

| I'm not going to Hull - not because of the team, but because it's Hull. I've not forgotten their animalistic fans deliberately sat as close to the away end as they possibly could, constantly looking at, and shouting at us rather than the game, and I've certainly not forgotten the coach being attacked with a brick on leaving the ground.
I know it's a minority, but to me, the atmosphere was hostile. No place for that in RL. Banter, of course yes. Out and out hostility - no.
I appreciate it won't bother most of you, but it bothers me. Sorry if that makes me fickle or soft, but I'd sooner not put myself position in the name of a rugby game.

It's not as simple as 'just one game' though is it? We've had a few years of Wigan playing less rugby than any other team in the league. If there is another team who play less attractive rugby than Wigan, name them. I honestly don't think I'm that bad for not going to Hull but as my heading suggests, I think that the ones who go, deserve the utmost praise. Hope they don't disappoint.
Got to admit, I'll be glued to the Saints/Wire game on Sky, with GMR in my ear. I expect to see some great rugby and hope to hear some.

| I can see where Salty is coming from. Last year was probably the least enjoyable season I've ever had watching Wigan, and last week just picked up where most of last season left off.
We are just so fecking boring and predictable it's untrue. I can't even have a decent drink to numb the pain until I get back home because I have to drive to nearly every game. However I've got a nearly full bottle of vodka waiting for me when I get home tomorrow night. I think I might need it.

| The only time I ever doubted going to watch Wigan week in week out was when we bare face cheated to stay in superleague. Some may agree or not but that did leave a rotten taste in my mouth for a little while.
Thankfully my wife made me see sense by saying that there is little that we the fans can do about the politics of the club and that we should just go and get on with our job of supporting the boys.
We may not enjoy some of the stuff we play, but it is Wigan RLFC playing and to the both of us that that is all that matters in our choice of to go or not to go.
Players come, players go, managers come, managers go as do the people who own and run the club. But one thing stays for ever and that is us the fans. We are Wigan RLFC

It was a handful of kids chanting - you get much worse at other grounds!
I love going to the KC, great atmosphere, great facilities. And to another poster I think its a great ground to take someone new to

| There's no such thing as a 'true fan' for mine. Following RL is a social pastime for you to do to a level of your choosing, you shouldn't feel obliged to do it to a prescribed level. If there's a part of it you don't enjoy, why do it?

Of course - if people don't enjoy going - why go? I know plenty who have quit who were once ardent fans as they just prefer doing other stuff. By the same token there's plenty who have taken to going in the meantime. I can't be doing with the attend every game or none at all approach.

Thats not what i was posting above. The orginal poster made the comment about changing his mind after sundays performance, so there must be an element of him wanting to attend the game as he made plans to do so.
"We lost last week so im not going next week" OR "we played well and won, i think i'll go next week"

What he said
There are times when I get more enjoyment watching the reserves / academy.

I will admit that I have on a few occassions not attended games due to the way the team has played the week before - like when we lost to Catalans in the CC semi, I didn't go to Wire the week after, thank God.

From what I read there's an element of him simply not enjoying the style of rugby we play and often the lame throwing in of the towel rather than going down with a fight. I can appreciate that, one of the hardest things to get enthusiastic about is following a team with no hunger for the scrap in them.
On the subject of 'we won so I'll go next week' approach, it's self defeating, a mate of my dads who we all take the mick out of for his doom and gloom approach does this every year. It was pretty amusing last year when we couldn't string 2 wins together - I think he missed something like 5 wins whilst watching 6 straight losses
Personally, I used to feel like I'd lost a tooth missing any game, but these days whether it's a change in personal circumstances or more apathy towards the current team I'm not sure but quite a few away games I don't even consider going to.

| the kc visit is one of the highlights of the season for us, theres not many grounds where you feel as safe, there may be plenty verbals flying from side to side but it is well stewarded. as for not going because we lost last week i think its a poor excuse. tomorrow is another day. they are going to have a big crowd behind them and the boys will need all the support we can muster, so if you are 50/50 then go, if they win you can tell your friends you were there.

you can be a fan and not go to every game due to personal circumstances.
money, kids other activities, other leisure pursuits.
rugby league is not the be all and end all, and anyone who slags off fans for not attending every game whilst they themselves never miss a game have either too much money and time on their hands, or they dont have a full and varied life.........ie......they need to get a life and join the real world.
for what its worth i am a liverpool fan, and ive not been to anfiend for years for financial reasons, and im a pittsburg steelers fan and NEVER been to pittsburg...........but i wore my pittsburg shirt with pride on sunday in protest of us not having a shirt and there was no way i was wearing last years with JJB on it.

| If a usual traveling supporter easily has the time & money yet decides to skip a game because of the fact they don't like the way the team are playing then fair enough, they're a self-confessed fair weather supporter which isn't neccessarily a negative thing or anything to be looked down on but it's something they might struggle to accept.
