| Seeing as they give drug taking, drink driving players support and counselling, expect the flare throwers to be appointed official ambassadors for away travel.

You see, the thing is that the Postage Stamp Stadium is actually owned by the club. Whilst it has obvious faults, every single penny spent in that stadium (apart from the ones in the awful bogs) is income for the club and the club alone. The stadium is also the club’s training base, so no expenditure elsewhere in terms of this. And the club have absolute full control over the stadium - no been held to ransom by other tenants or by the owners of the stadium.
There’s a lot to be said for owning a delapidated wreck.

I said this to my husband last night, we always try and grab a seat if possible it’s much more fun tbh,but anyway when they announced the women’s team as well as the under 19s team would be playing there you can understand the reluctance to knock it down and start again,it will have to happen at some point of course but it’ll be a loss to the community even when the new stadium does arrive it’ll never be the same.

| I hope the idiots now realise it gave us (Cas) a little bit longer to get our breath back and re-group as the ref halted the game.

Apart from the fact that Cas still aren’t matching the original SL criteria in terms of stadia.

Was the length of the pitch a criteria? Might of been for new grounds but I find it highly unlikely that it could be applied retropectively wouldn't you?

Nitpick all you like, my point is perfectly valid. Everyone except Cas and Wakey either renovated or rebuilt. In the third decade of SL my opinion is that it is a disgrace that they are allowed to get away with it.

Yes, but refer to my earlier post. There isn’t much of an incentive to build a new stadium when every penny that is spent at Wheldon Road goes directly to the club. Why would we put ourselves in a weaker financial position and be tenants? We’d lose revenue from ticket sales, all food and drink bought on matchday and stadium sponsorship. We’d also lose our training fasciiities and have to pay build a training base. And then we’d be at the mercy of the company who own the stadium in terms of when we can use it etc.
Look at the recent financial context. Teams who don’t own their own stadium (including Wigan here) and posting massive financial losses. It only takes the club owner to decide that they have another priority and, like Widnes, there is a risk the club goes into administration and possibly ceases to exist.
The reason Cas haven’t built a new stadium is that it would put the club in a weaker position than it is currently. The current project looks like it might come to fruition and the club will have ownership of the stadium too, so if and when that happens it will be a step forward in this area. But if it doesn’t I’d still rather be playing in a delapidated stadium that we own rather than be tenants at the mercy of someone else.

So why the constant lies about the new stadium bring just around the corner? The fact is Cas have been fobbing SL off for years. Good luck to you, you’ve got away with it.

There not lies, stop being so pathetically ignorant. Wakefield and Cas don't have a millionaire to build them a stadium do they. You did so just remember that before you start your stupid accusations.
It would have been just as impossible for Wigan to get a new stadium as it would with the rest of the teams in SL without support from A: a millionaire, B: with the support of a developor, C: without the support of their local Council. Cas and Wakefield have had none of the above.
People like you have very selective and petty memories - you should be saying thetr but fir the gace of god - Wigan and the rest have been very fortunate, I don't begrudge you that - what I do find sad is that you use it to point score over less fortunate clubs - you shame our sport.

| No more shames the sport than people switching on their TVs to see games played in stadiums that would look out of place in footballs League 2.

I'm not denying that, do you think we like BV as it is now? Luckily we now own it again so lets give the new people in charge a bit of leeway.

In defence of these two clubs, it's not as if there has been no effort to try and bring either a new ground, or to update facilities. Thankfully, the HJS was built when it was, but this took a large amount of assistance from Tesco and Warrington BC. Wigan were also helped out by the same supermarket and Derek Whelan. The answer may lie in that Cas and Wakey didn't have such partners to get their projects over the line. That doesn't mean that future plans are no longer being worked on.

How refreshing for a fan of another club to be reasonable about the stadium woes of both clubs!
That said - I see no relevance to the original post anyway - unless its now a legitimate form of protest at the state of another clubs stadia, for visiting fans to throw pyrotechnics onto the field of play?

| Absolutely, doesn't matter if it's a new stadium or an old one, there will still be a small minority of idiots. Nor is the stadium a justification for stupid behaviour.
