Sounds like some of the senior players like Bowen and Green are going to be under real pressure to keep their shirt in the next 12-18 months.'"
I wouldn't expect either of them to still be at Wigan in 12 months time tbh.

Hopefully not as it would mean two more talented young Brits in their place.
Incredible production line at Wigan - what I find so impressive is the number of x-factor players rather than steady pros that the club seems to develop.

Could well be Hampshire at 1 and Powell at 6, with Williams still in reserve. Logan Tomkins and Lewis Tierney still need to improve but both could well develop in to established players also. It's good that we've got some exciting creative players coming through. We've relied heavily on oversees players, in the halves especially, over the last few years (Lam, Barrett, Leuluai, Tim Smith, Finch, Green) or British players we've bought from other clubs (Orr, Deacon, Smith), with only really Sam Tomkins bucking that trend, so it'll be nice to have some own-grown first choice players pulling the strings.
It's obviously early days but if players like Hampshire, Burgess and Powell kick on then they'll be excellent players, the challenge is then to try and keep them!

Whilst not halfbacks, Radlinski, Newton, Farrell and O'Loughlin all held down key positions for long periods recently. I suspect Luke Robinson would have been on that list also were it not for Pongia-gate

I agree with those, though not sure if you would class them as "X-Factor" players. My point is we have pretty much always had at least a couple of oversees players in the first-choice spine of our team in recent history. It's not necessarily a bad thing, I loved watching Barrett, Lam, Leuluai etc., but we seem to have the players coming through to have a very exciting spine made up of players who have exclusively come through our academy.
Newton came from Leeds, btw.

I was counting Newton as he was a Wiganer. Radlinski and Farrell didn't half rack up a lot of points for players without x-factor! It will be interesting having an all-English spine next season assuming Bowen and Green go. Probably more of an indication of SL clubs ability to attract quality overseas players these days as much as anything.

| The plan looks to be to go to-
1-Hampshire
6-Powell
7-Smith
9-McIlorum
13-Lockers
I think that will be the line up as early as next year tbh. That could even be the line up towards the end of this year if Hampshire and Powell keep pushing.
It's exciting to see those options written down. The one downside is you'd like to see that line up build a legacy in one team over a vast number of years but I can't see it being the case as players are moving on at a rapid rate.

| i watched a couple of the other videos in the series and they may as well just call it yorkshire super league review.
Also just shows the selfish and backwards attitude for me regarding the salary cap and marquee allowance, the cas chairmen may as well turn round and say we can't afford it so we won't be voting for it. You don't need finance to run amateur clubs just need a lot of community work and clubs can do that at low expense. Also the player agent just seems to be a scout for leeds basically. Im guessing Danny Mcguire made him a shed loads of cash.

| Ryan Hampshire is the best half back at the club. He has every facet to his game, bar physical size and that is something that will come with time as he matures.
Green and Smith offer frig all IMO!
I am sick of people saying Hampshire is the future full back for us simply because Wane has been giving him game time there.....he is not a full back in any way shape or form. Would you buy a Ferrari and take it on an off road cross country rally?! No you wouldn't, so don't waste a class player at full back.....he is a future International half back mark my words.
Its no coincidence that the only game he played in the halves last year he produced a man of the match performance and was by far the best player on the field, give the lad the ball and he makes things happen and unlike Smith and Green he causes problems for the defensive line when he attacks it. Then when he is off the ball he is the best supporting player I have seen since Rob Burrow at the Whinos, he is guaranteed to score you 30 tries a season at least.

| Green and Smith out! We lost against Huddersfield and half a game in a friendly against the NZ Warriors 2 days after stepping of a plane journey from the other side of the world with those 2 losers.
Can we please take the Lance Todd and Harry Sunderland awards away from them and also their CC medal and GF winners rings.
Get Shorrocks in.

Grimmy all I will say is lets see who is laughing in a 3-4 years time, when Hampshire has that experience and has fully matured as a player. You must have a Labrador!
I was not saying Green and Smith are useless.....I was simply stating the fact they offer frig all going forward. Have either of them got that turn of pace? have either of them got a quality kicking game? I have seen snails quicker than them two! Hampshire has a far better skill set and can change a game in more than one way. We could have had the chuckle brothers in the halves last year. The forwards set us on a roll and then smith and green passed Tomkins it on the run around and he created tries. Lets see what they do this year without that attacking outlet, I can assure you they will be clueless.

I actually really do rate Hampshire and would have had him in the 17, possibly the 13, but saying both the men of the match from our two finals last year 'offer frig all' is plain laughable. Smith is a very good at organising, kicking and passing. Green on his game can throw killer passes and has a great step as seen in the Hudds play off and the GF last year when he scored in each. Having said that he has been inconsistent so I wouldn't have been against the idea of Hampshire playing SO instead.

| As you know on here I am one of Hampshire biggest fans, I've been banging on about him for the past three or four years. However, I want Wane to be careful with him. Would I have played him on Saturday? Maybe from the bench when Powell was ruled out.
Where should he play?
Eventually I see him as a#6 and it will be interesting to see what happens next year if Bowen and Green leave. However look through the teams both here and in Australia and see how many players under the age of 23 are playing in that key roll. Physically I don't think Hampshire at the age of 19 is ready YET.
Playing him at #1 gives him that bit more time to pick his line and avoid the major hammerings he would get at #6. I expect this year we will see him play 10 - 15 games in the first team, the majority at #1 but some at #6 to allow him to continue his development.
Patience with the likes of him, Williams, Burgess, Manfredi, Gildart and Shorrocks etc is key to Wigan producing a team that will continue to be around the leaders for years to come. Overplay or play too many too soon could stifle their progress and end up like we did around 2003 - 2006 with the likes of Brown, Aspinwall, Robinson, Hodgson, Wild, Tickle etc.

Completely agree and I think SW has youth development down to an absolute tee. I trust that our youths are being brought through in the "Wigan Way".
