Leeds had a poor season and yet won the WCC, got to the final of the CC and won Super League. Perhaps the regular rounds form was poor for a team of Leeds' calibre. But Kevin Sinfield personally has been consistent.
It has to be noted, as it usually the case, British fans on RL.fans on the whole have been quick to congratulate Kevin Sinfield, and yet a large section of Wigan fans are (as usual) showing their usual jealousy and bitterness that their club, players etc are no longer receiving such accolades.
Perhaps these particular Wigan fans should go and watch another sport, as their unique outpourings of negativity towards anything RL that does not involve their club does not do the sport or their club any favors.

I don't. If it had anything to do with the upcoming world cup, they would have chosen an exciting & eye catching player like Sam Tomkins. As it is, they've just a player based upon his captaincy skills and how he is capable of getting the best from those around him. Not as exciting to watch as 50m try scoring feats, but essential when it came to winning the championships for the 6th time in 9 years and the WCC against the reigning NRL champions.

Have you posted this in the similar thread on the Warrington board? Or would that go against your "it's only wigan that are bitter and jealous" agenda?
Or how about the virtual terrace? where the majority (except for Leeds, obviously) are a bit perplexed about it?
Why are you so shocked that people who don't support Leeds don't agree that he is being named the greatest player in the world? It's all a matter of opinion isn't it? and the general opinion is that it's strange to see a player who wasn't shortlisted for even the best player in superleague and didn't even make a dream team or world 13 named the worlds best player.
Chase won the MOS just before being picked for England, and now Sinfield win's the Golden boot just before a world cup played in England. who would have thought ey!
Sinfield deserves recognition from Leeds fans for what he has done for the club. And boy hasn't he had it , what with sir kevin sinfield day amongst other honours.
When he can achieve something in an international shirt other than leading us to victory against the likes of Wales and France, then I'll begin to view him along side some of the best players in the world who are over in the NRL
I don't think anyone's denying what he has achieved at Leeds is great, but anyone who seriously thinks he is "the greatest player in the world" right now is sniffing glue. He deserve's some credit for what he's achieved , but don't kid yourselves.

Todd Carney was as bad last season as he was good the season before. Everytime Foran has played against Sinfield for NZ or Manly he's been second best. James Maloney can't even get in the NSW origin team... McGuire was moved to SH because he's a better SH than he is a SO, and Sinfield is the better SO.

| I am absolutely chuffed to bits that Sir Kev has won this award, However i can fully understand whereby opposition fans treat it with such disdain, afterall i thought much the same when Andy Farrell won the award and ahead of a raft of so called much better deserved nominees too
I must admit that i regard Andy Farrell in the highest possible esteem and maybe/possibly both he and Sir Kev are almost like two peas in a pod in what they achieved or brought to their respective clubs, we should all forget our club loyalties and applaud such prestigious awards when they are rarely given out to one of this countries elite players

Myles played at 13 for Australia this year and Mannering at 13 for New Zealand. Would Sinfield get in there ahead of them? I don't think he would. Anasta played at 6 for the Roosters I believe this season.
Maloney has moved to the Roosters to enhance his SOO chances as he wasn't getting a look in whilst playing in NZ for the Warriors.
The McGuire one I can't comment obviously.

When was the last time Sinfield was picked at 13 for England/GB when we had a fully fit side? In fact, when was he last picked at 13? In 2009 he was picked at hooker because Burgess was at 13. When SOL is fit, he plays 13. Sinfield plays at 6, 7 or 9 simply because we don't have another goal kicker. If someone like say Sam could kick goals then "Sir Kev" would be lucky to make the cut.

As has been said elsewhere, the style of loose forward you pick, whether you go for the extra prop or the extra halfback, should be dependant upon the make up of the team and as such I would hope that whoever is picked to play there is chosen accordingly.

TBH, whilst I wouldn't agree with his selection I totally agreed with him being Captain if that makes sense? (although I think Leeds winning the final had a lot to do with that) His leadership skills can't be challenged by anyone neither can his kicking. If he is in the side then he has to kick goals and he has to be Captain.

And this is, I believe, what won him the Golden Boot. He may not be the best Stand-Off or the best Loose Forward, he is however the best captain. Without Sinfield Leeds would not have reached the Grand Final or the Challenge Cup final and as these were reached by defeating Wigan it's perfectly understandable that there may be 1 or 2 people on this board that don't like him for it.

It's nothing to do with them beating us on my part. I'll admit he was the mom in that game and had a blinder. I just think there are better players than him. As you sau though, there aren't many better captains.

| The Golden Boot is not about being the best player in the world. If it was then Smith or Slater would win every year, following fifteen years of Johns/Lockyer wins.
It's more about achievement over a year and a career, with very few players winning it more than once. Sinfield is a worthy winner.

| Firstly, its a poor decision. I think several others were more deserving, but, congrats to the guy anyway.
It's difficult to dispute that he is probably the best captain in the SL comp atm. He is also the England captain wether we like it or not. Would it not be an idea to use his status (deserved or otherwise) to promote the game to outsiders.
RL needs some decent publicity, given some of the negative headlines which have dragged the game into the news recently. If those morons in London can positively spin some of the bs they do, surely we can do the same!!
