I listen to him occasionally and think at times he's quite funny and offers good opinions about things, but he really has a high opinion of himself and this thread will only be feeding his ego! If you listen to him you expect things like this and therefore can't really complain about it!

Mate, that simply isn't an excuse. Not in the BBC's opinion (see Ross/Brand) and not in mine! As I stated earlier, I'm sure Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson weren't really racist. This is a professional (in one sense of the word only) broadcaster who is, and should be, subject to stricter guidelines of what is suitable or acceptable.

I don't listen to the bloke, generally he thinks he knows everything and likes to disagree with his callers no matter what, but that is not the same as if Phil Clarke said something.

This is my issue with this whole thing. Feel offended, it is nobody's place to have a say in this, indeed you don;t even have a say, it is either offensive to you or it isn't you can't choose to be offended. What people can choose then is to be unreasonable and make incorrect statements, which IMO weakens any argument.

Just a quick look at his Wiki page shows that he is an opinionated idiot, having previously been banned for being abusive to a caller (quite a lot of them IMHO), and also having to issue an apology after making a joke about the death of Alan Ball.

The fact is that plenty of things are broadcast the people find offensive, and an apology will not always be issued. If that was the case certain comedians would never see the light of day, and BBC would be full of family shows - although interestingly Frankie Boyle is in the firing line as we speak!

Last post on the subject as its getting boring now.
