| Quote ="Phuzzy"...and he wasn't. Isn't this exactly what we have a right as license payers to expect? If he falls short don't we have a right to make it known to the corporation we fund that we are disatisfied? I think you need to re-read this post and then compare it to your previous ones. You've either changed your mind (fair enough; that's the point of debate) or you're getting confused.'"
Not changed my mind or getting confused. He should keep his club loyalties to himself which he didn't on this occasion but saying that, no commentator in the World does. Don't think we can have a pop at him for that.
By wrong way I mean he probably shouldn't have sounded so jovial and maybe phrased it as:
'Amos Roberts has a possible broken leg which is no doubt a boost to my club Warrington (which would put a smile on his face) with Wigan missing a key player for maybe the season, but what now for both Wigan and Roberts' No malice and opens the topic up for discussion. Would we have this thread then? Probably not.
As I said, he's gone about it the wrong way, but I honestly don't believe there was any malice in it. Maybe i'm wrong and the guy is a t*t but I presume the beeb would have reacted differently if it was intentional malice as they did with the Brand/Ross scenario you mentioned. (on a totally separate note, Russell Brand is about as funny as aids)

Yours is that he was wrong to say it and should apologise. Are you not saying that my opinion is wrong and I should fall into your boundaries of good taste? No, you're simply stressing your opinion which we're all entitled to do.
The fact that we're arguing about it amongst ourselves is probably the response he wanted from his (again my opinion) tongue in cheek comment.'"
I'll refer you back to your own 2nd post (the one I commented on) and the manner you chose to express it. If you can honestly say that it wasn't a comment on people's opinion, as opposed to a comment on the issue, then I'll leave it there. However, I think we both know, given in a subsequent post you mention it was in response to people's intention to phone in etc. that wasn't the case.
Incidentally, I notice you don't answer the questions I posed you in the post you quote in part above. Could this be because you actually agee with the principle, despite what you've been arguing in this thread?

But he didn't. That is exactly the point. We all know what he [ushould[/u have done. The fact that he failed to do so is the reason we have responded the way we have! It's like saying Gaz Hock shouldn't have been repremanded as what he should have done was not take the drugs. We know. But he did take the drugs. that's the point!
You say you aren't geting confused but you are increasingly arguing against yourself. You now accept that he didn't do his job, was unprofessional, should have handled it differently, should keep his club loyalties in check to a greater degree than he does etc. etc. Isn't that exactly the right reasons to put in a complaint against a broadcaster? If not, what is?

| The point of this thread and complaint is because he seemingly celebrated Amos' injury is it not? My opinion is that he didn't. He could have (and probably should have) handled it differently, maybe said nothing at all, but it was a clear imo tongue in cheek comment about the major talking point of the weekend which happened to benefit the team he supports.
My second comment was because imo the situation has been blown out of proportion. People have complained and the beeb have replied. I'm not saying you're wrong to take it further or have the opinion you have, I'm simply disagreeing.

I agree with you mate, anybody who knows Allan should know that he's a huge wind up merchant who likes to make statements to shock and get people thinking and talking (and he doesn't always really believe the tripe he comes out with).
Personally he's always made me chuckle, right back to the phone ins of an evening on Red Rose and people trying to swear, take the mick out of etc.

Announcing it on the radio is hardly being secretly glad though is it? If i made a stupid mistake like that in my job i know at the least i would get a b0llocking, its not right what he said at all, at the time it was looking like amos had suffered a season ending injury. If he had said it about Wayne Rooney the media would be all over it in an uproar and it would have upset that many people they the BBC would probably have had to sack him.

To be honest if it had come from somebody other than Allan, i'd be totally with you on that, but i'm totally convinced it was just a wind up to get a reaction. Bad taste though probably, but that's Allan all over.

| mother feka he didnt say it about Wayne Rooney and luckily Amos isnt seriously injured. he said something out of order but havent we all. By making a big deal of this stupid mans comments you are making him think he is more important than he really is. He is a wire fan and makes no secret of that fact and was saying out loud (wrongly to some) what many opposition fans where maybe thinking. Its his job to be contraversial...and he has got the reaction he wanted.
I just think Phuzzy is going a bit full on with his comments to Conroy. Conroy is entitled to have a difference of oppinion its a free country..we are allowed free speech and thought....for now

| I think we all know what Allan Beswick was trying to say but it came across wrong. If he had of said the same thing in a pub he would have not hat to say what he did as you could have seen his smile. All he has to do is come on the radio and say sorry what i was trying to get across did not come out right i was not happy that someone got hurt what i was trying to say with him out of the team for what ever reason it might help my team. Which i think every RL fan thinks when an important player is out of any team for whatever reason. No one is happy with anyone being hurt but are happy they do not have to face him.

Actually he doesn't. He isn't a sports presenter or commentator (I think anyway, apologies if I have this wrong). His show talks about all sort, he is very opinionated, and he has no obligation to be impartial on sport.

| When I first replied to this on page two I thought it would blow over quickly but all I can say is that I'm glad I don't have to go for a pint with some on here. I'm sure you would not say anything all night just in case you upset anybody. I did not hear the broadcast but I do know Beswick is a Wire fan and have heard him come out with similar comments in the past, so obviously a lot of the complainers do not tune in to him on a regular basis. Come on everyone lighten up a bit and don't take life to serious.

| I listen to him occasionally and think at times he's quite funny and offers good opinions about things, but he really has a high opinion of himself and this thread will only be feeding his ego! If you listen to him you expect things like this and therefore can't really complain about it!

| He's a 24 carat bell end. He thinks he's being scouted to be the next Paxman. Some woman was on last week talking about a private funded initiative to find Keith Bennets' body on Saddleworth Moors. She was a a friend of & spokesperson for his Mam and he gave her hell. I thought what a complete & utter tool. Would you make such a woman squirm over such an emotive issue?
And why do Radio Manchester back Warrington over a Greater Manchester team anyway. It's like them rooting for Stoke City over Man United. Wouldn't happen so why does it happen with Rugby League. Comes back to anti Wigan jealousy again. And Jack Dearden's as green as anyone else with it.

| Quote ="Madge"Just got this:
Thanks for your e-mail regarding the 6 April edition of 'Beswick at Breakfast' on BBC Radio Manchester.
We understand that you felt Allan's comments about Amos Roberts' suspected broken leg were inappropriate.
Allan Beswick is very well known as a Warrington Wolves supporter, who are currently battling with Wigan Warriors for the top spot in the Super League. His comments here were in that context, with rivals Wigan Warriors having scored a very convincing win in their match against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on 5 April 2010, thus keeping them at the top of the table.
Allan's unique brand of humour is well known to his BBC Radio Manchester listeners who will appreciate that his comments here about both Wigan and their player Amos Roberts were not intended to be taken at all seriously, but were merely humorous comment borne out of frustration at Wigan's excellent result which kept them above Warrington in the table.
His banter with sports presenter Delyth Lloyd on the subject was clearly light-hearted with Allan in reply being jokily called a "naughty man" by Delyth.
Clearly in no way was Allan actually happy that a player suffered an injury - indeed he was genuinely full of praise for Wigan's performance even though it meant his beloved Warrington were denied the top spot as a result of their win.
The sports report also went on to focus on the incident itself in some depth including commentary clips plus a description of the match and a review of the injury incident with an interview with the team's coach describing it fully.
However, we do acknowledge your concerns over his comments and we'd like to assure you that we've registered your complaint on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that's circulated to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.
=#FF0000The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.
Regards

Why are people always moaning at the smallest thing and always offended at everything that isn't complimentary or favourable.

Mate, that simply isn't an excuse. Not in the BBC's opinion (see Ross/Brand) and not in mine! As I stated earlier, I'm sure Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson weren't really racist. It's still not deemed suitable for broadcast! We're not talking about some bloke down the pub or a numpty on an internet forum. This is a professional (in one sense of the word only) broadcaster who is, and should be, subject to stricter guidelines of what is suitable or acceptable.
To Ellie. No I have never secretly smiled at a player's injury. Ever. It's interesting that the Wakefield fans who have posted on Amos' injury and,who themselves stood to benefit, have, to a man, not gloated or delighted in it either. They have had more class than this idiot.
Let me ask you a question. If some Warrington troll had come on this board and gloated about Amos' injury would you have told him to grow up and bugger off to his own board or thought "aw, there's no malice in it". In fact, don't bother answering as I already know.
