| So bring in McGillvary but drop his club centre partner. And lose a forward to boot?
OK...

| I'd have brought Gale in but Smith will do. Our two halves have offered no sort of control in the first two games and look like they're running up blind alleys at points.
I'd level the majority of the blame at the more experienced Widdop. He's had two poor games in comparison to Williams having one pretty good game and one shocker.
If Burgessis dropped I think that's totally unfair tbh. He's been quiet but name a back who hasn't?! The game plan has given nobody a shot to express themselves. Our most dangerous back in Watkins has seen hardly any ball and in turn nor has Burgess. All the back five have done nothing wrong so if he's singled out that's bad form.

I do think he could have looked for a little more work last week.

Seems like changes for the sake of changes to me. Williams didn't play well on Saturday and I can see the reasoning behind dropping him, but neither did the majority of the team. Neither Smith or Gale have played a minute of any of the 3 games so far and I guess Smith has probably got the nod because he's played with Widdop before. If McNamara has watched that game back and thought "I know what'll solve this, McGilvary for Burgess!" then he's even more of a clown than I ever imagined. One or two tweaks in the forwards maybe, but other than that it's the tactics that need addressing much more than personnel.
Regardless of the result on Saturday it's time for a change of coach IMO. How he's lasted over 5 years I'll never know. I have always thought that he should've been replaced after the 2011 4N and I'm adamant that this group of players' development would have been much further along than it is if he had have been.

| I agree with why he's gone for Smith. Its also not necessarily a bad thing in Williams' development to realise he's got some way to improve. Having watched Widdop closely this year, I was afraid this might happen, as I've gone from being really excited about him playing for England to really doubting his ability to create tries at the highest level.

| Is there a chance Williams & Smith will be the half back combination with Smith being included for his long kicking game that can be good when he's on form. McGilvary would be a more muscular option in kick chase and running the ball back than Joe Burgess so i guess that may be why he could get the nod.

| I mentioned that upthread, I think. I suppose it's possible. If not, Widdop can consider himself fortunate. For all the criticism of Matty Smith, his kicking game has been shown to be a good option in wet conditions in the past.

Few have got the guts to sack a winning coach these days even it is the right thing to do. Wigan replaced Clarke and Mcinnes withe Lowe as it was thought he'd take us to the next level and of of course Dorahy got the boot on the coach on the way back from Wembley with the Challenge Cup!
I think those days are gone. Administrators have too much of an eye on the press and the PR to act like that.

I think most assumed that would be the case. Win or bust for him. Bar a shocker last Sat, I seem to be one of the few who think hes done ok. If we win and play well tomorrow id like to see him continue.

We've consistently been 3rd in a 3 horse race, mostly played crap rugby and there have been consistent selection and tactical head scratchers. Not to mention he's now based in Australia so he's no longer the "full time" England coach he was originally employed as. He's had 5 years, how much longer do you give him? I think we've done OK in spite of him rather than because of him, and with a decent coach in charge we'd actually be seriously challenging the southern hemisphere teams more regularly.

| Setting off now. Damn these early kick-offs; I usually stop over the night after the match, but this time I'm getting the train tonight, arrive about 10pm, time to check into hotel, a couple of beers and a good night's kip.

| I've read a few comments across various boards saying the cupboard is bare in terms of a replacement for Macca and I don't get that at all! We've never had this many options in years. We could choose between Shaun Wane, Brian McDermott, Daryl Powell or Paul Anderson over here and there would be various other candidates available overseas.
Lose tomorrow and it must be the end for McNamara. In truth is still probably look for a change even if we win. He's really organised the set up and he's done a good job overall but it just feels the right time to freshen it up.

Surely it would have to be Tony Smith. He likes his teams to play free flowing, offloading, off the cuff rugby that the majority of fans seem to want. That would work well, wouldn't it!!!!

Surely Sir Kev would be a better choice that his partner in crime Danny Maguire.
On a more serious note Rouges choice may not be a bad shout, as a long shot Daryl Powell of Cas if given the time could prove to be a very good International Coach.

There's a difference between wanting to play a risky low-percentage offload game and not wanting to be bored to death.
