| Lets be honest guys you all had squeaky bums at half time today thinking 2013 was going to be year of the Wolfs
Hard to call Wire in 2014. Some key players moving on. I reckon over a league season we probably won't be top 2 again. I think we will be around 4th or 5th but will still have the potential to mix things up in the playoffs.
Thought Wigan looked really up for it tonight btw, great to see the togetherness in the team, they really wanted to win. I like the culture Wane has got at Wigan these days, there are no big egos they work hard and are ambassadors of good values for Wigan RL so hope you enjoy your celebrations tonight

Good assessment, except Goulding's try prior half time is what really gave the fans hope as it exposed a flaw in the Wire defence. The culture at Wigan is what all clubs should aspire to. Warrington will be 4th in 2014 and dangerous in the play offs, beyond that they need to recruit or start blooding their juniors.

I agree. Wigan had a great culture with Edwards, Bell, Clarke and so on and that seemed to get eroded in the early years of summer rugby. It went from a culture of big stars who were able to rein in their personal egos and stood for hard work, toughness and sacrifice, to a culture of fairly big name players who were on big money and thought they were better than they were and were resting on their laurels.
One thing I thought was good at Wigan from Mike Gregory's brief spell in charge was he seemed to be returning the culture and values to Wigan and impressing it on the young players at the time. Then after his unfortunate illness the culture got lost again under Millward.
I think Shaun Wane has really got this back with Wigan, this double has not been done with big stars but with a modest team that has worked hard, even the star players like Tomkins and O'Loughlin have zero personal egos, its all about the success of their teammates.

| As said, difficult to predict Wires future. It seems with a couple of cup wins they were being tuned to peak in 2012/2013 to win a Grand Final. To be fair 2013 really should've been their year. Alas, sadly it was not to be.
Now some of their senior players are moving on it's probably back to the drawing board and the year of the wolf may not come round again for another few years. Shame.

Two cracking posts there Sally... and yes, even a "Happy Clapper" like me was twitchy. The try before H/T was crucial to Wanes H/T talk, and would have affected morale in the Wire dressing room, the injuries were very telling on Wire too. Wire have some work to do in replacing the older and very capable experienced players, but Smith is a top coach and Wire will be there or thereabouts.
Looking forward now to seeing what next season brings!!!

I think we peaked in 2011. We still had Matt King then and Michael Monaghan was IMO the most effective player in the league at that point. Since then we've been good but not quite that level.
I do agree that there are questions over Wire in the next few years but looking at the other clubs its also not clear who is jumping ahead to pole position. Wigan you would say should be pole position but Tomkins going is a big loss and despite your great achievement in winning the double there has been a lot of self doubt amongst the Wigan fans reading this forum in recent weeks, I think you're a well prepared and well coached team who works well as a team but these days you don't have the array of world class stars that were there a couple of decades ago that differentiated Wigan from the rest, so Wigan have to work a bit harder to get success.
Leeds, I think are in similar position to Warrington, a good team but most of the key players are getting old now and they will have to replace big guns in the next few years. Saints I don't think are quite there and neither are Hull. If anything I think Huddersfield could see the next couple of years as an opportunity for them to try and win a trophy or steal an edge on the rivals.
But more realistically, looking just at next season I expect the best two teams to be Wigan and Hudds, and then three more teams that are capable of winning a trophy: Leeds, Warrington and Saints, with Saints the outsiders of that group. If pushed to make a prediction I would say Wigan, but it would not be a major surprise if any of those clubs won the title.

Back in the 2001 Grand Final at half time a gentleman turned to my friend and told her "You will never win anything with an old side, Sorry love but your side is too old".
Yesterday on the 42nd minute of the game Lee Briers kicked the ball to touch and from that moment on even at 16-6 down we looked like winning it. They looked out on their feet less than 10 minutes later Carvell, Morley, Wood and Hill got run round by our props and MM and Greens tries came from tired defenders who were out on their feet.
Looking at the 3 play off games this season and comparing them to the early part of the season its a a bit weird. We got stronger as the games went on. Giants and Leeds we beat in the second half and yesterday we bullied a big Wire pack around in the second half. But at the start we destroyed sides early and held back.

Smith is an enigma. He was smiling like a chesire cat as wigan posted try after try after try. He doesn't seem to want to show it when things aren't going his way, so he always looks smug even when things are going well and truly tits up.

| It will never be Warrington's year because simply the will NEVER deserve it.
It was left to Leeds last year to save the sport and it was our watch this year to do the same.
The day Wire win the league is the day that this sport dies. If they ever win the league then this sport will be done for.

Without a shadow of a doubt.
But when you watch the game back Dire only really had 10 / 15 mins of real dominance or pressure. Granted you guys looked untouchable for that period of time but in hindsight it was never going to be enough to win the big one.
Even before your patch of form we looked the more lively side with Goulding miss placing a few passes that on another night would have sent Charnley crashing over.
For me this GF will should not only go down in history for the great comeback but also for the fact we dominated our opposition for 3/4 of the match.

Sadly it's a thankless job making sure the little clubs are kept in line.
I would have thought RL as whole would would have snapped out of it after the disastrous event of the parasite club (Huddersfield) winning the league leaders shield.
Time for this sports 'fans' to wake up and ask what they want this sport to be- One where little sides win trophies or one where clubs with proud histories and immense potential are given the support and backing to take the game to the Aussies power clubs.

| Agree with the views of Sally C and thought the biggest performer for you guys has been Saun Wayne. He's been written off so many times and his tactics questioned but fair play to him. After loosing all those players last year; everyone had written Wigan off and for me, he's the one person you'd miss the most if he left. Still gutted but a massive congrats on the double.
