| For me, and this is kind of touched on above, there should be 2 awards for the end of season, rather than just the one Man of Steel award.
I think Man of Steel should be given to the best/hardest forward in the league. That player that the rest vote to win based on "I blooming hate playing against him cause he runs it in hard every time and you just can't get past him" so the "hard working" players are recognised for being the best and hardest workers. Thats what Man of Steel should be about. I mean you call the award the man of steel, but then award it to a flair player who you wouldn't really describe as being made of steel.
And there should be a Dally M style award for the player that gives the biggest contribution to his teams success as in the creative spark that controls matches and changes the game. Similar to what the League express are doing with the Albert Goldthorpe medal (Have I got that right? I've not actually read the league express for a while now but they did something like that last season) So this award would be like the player of the year, because it's awarded to the player that their team just couldn't be without, and wouldn't have done as well without them.
That may still be awarded to the hardest forward for just being a massive presence and carrying his team forward all the time, so it's not just for the backs if you know what I mean?

In his own way he could be as good.

I feel this award should be worth more, however it does seem quite biased towards halves, but I suppose that is down to who is deciding the top 3 players at each match.
Top 10 according to the site at the moment are:
Rangi Chase (Castleford Tigers) 22
Scott Dureau (Catalans Dragons) 21
James Roby (St Helens) 20
Sam Tomkins (Wigan Warriors) 18
Ben Westwood (Warrington Wolves) 13
Glenn Morrison (Wakefield Trinity Wildcats) 13
Danny Brough (Huddersfield Giants) 12
Jonny Lomax (St Helens) 11
Brett Kearney (Bradford Bulls) 10
Scott Grix (Huddersfield Giants) 10
Similar group at the top to what everyone here is feeling (although I'd suggest so far Roby should be a couple of notches higher), and a few different choices, including some grafters, lagging a bit behind.

| I'll name 8 players that are worthy of being ahead of Sam Tomkins for Man Of Steel so far this year based on form, its not in any order of ratings.
1. James Roby
2. Scott Dureau
3. Michael Monaghan
4. David Solomona (Had little Sam in his back pocket)
5. James Graham
6. Rangi Chase
7. Jonny Lomax
8. Kirk Yeaman (form player in SL at present and leading try scorer)

As you know, I'm pretty honest and say what I think is correct. No way was he anywhere near roby today.
Hate the scooting hooker or not, you can't deny roby as a top quality player that is very important to what saints do.
In other words we are Fu**** without him.

Roby and Dureau maybe - as they are playing top class rugby at the moment.
Monaghan Im not sure about, not seen a lot of him this year. Solomona is in there just as a joke surely?
Graham hasnt had anywhere near as much influence as Sam this year on Saints, Thats been Roby.
Chase would be up with Roby and Dureau for me.
Lomax hasnt played as well as Sam, and finally - if Kirk Yeaman wins man of steel weve got problems. 'Ade Gardner' for example was leading try scorer a lot, but why was he never considered?

| From the games I've seen this year I'd have roby, chase and Tomkins at this moment in time.
Still over half the season to go yet, anything can happen.

You and I can have a proper rugby discussion. I don't like the scooter hooker, and have had many "fights" on here about the likes of Roby and Higham.
It was only when Piggy showed how it should be done that speccies began to understand (and even more so now that he's gone)
Houghton IMO outdid Roby in the hooker position because he matched him in the "scooter" plays but his distribution was better, and that's the first priority of a hooker.

The Albert Goldthorpe medal isn't worth anything given the muppets who pick the MoM in the League Express. I sure most of the reporters weren't at the same game as me given how they write up the report and who they choose as the 1-2-3. The latest thing this season seems to be to try to get a player from both teams into the 1-2-3 even when they don't justify it. As an example the report from the 26-0 Wakey game had Morrison in the top three players and yesterday had Gareth Thomas. It's not just Wigan games this seems to happen either, even when a team has been trounced.
