| Quote ="Rogues Gallery"But brought the game into disrepute in the 1966 final.
Personally I'd go for Shaun Edwards as I doubt his eleven Wembley finals will ever be matched.
Another two worth consideration, Eric Ashton, first player to captain a side to two successive final victories, coach a Wembey winning team and be a director (chairman?) of a Wembley winning team.
Jim Sullivan, World record goal kicker and first man to captain a winning Rugby League Challenge Cup team at Wembley.'"
i can understand anyone going for Shaun Edwards , but i think we need to be careful here.
just think about how we have to contend with certain bbc presnters when we have a big RL game televised they always want to bring union into the conversation.
Imagine the pre final show outside Wembley bbc person saying there is the statue of the great Shaun Edwards the famous Wasp's and wales coach.
who knows he may even be Englands coach by that time

| Edwards for me. 9 winners medals will never be matched.
Either that or Jim Sullivan as he was first to win a medal. No other real contenders.

| whoever they pick it'll not please everyone.
and tbh he think they should have had a person in mind before they started raising money.
whats the point of raising money, getting a kitty , and having no idea what to spend it on.
the target should be defined before they start out on a random project.
it really is a difficult one.
whoever they pick , it wont go down well with fans of other clubs, so im going for a non-player.
no idea who though.

I'm sorry but I don't go along with the 'it has to be a former Wigan player' notion. IMO if they do make a RL statue for Wembley, it has to be of a true RL legend.
It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a Wembley legend, you've got to remember that this statue will represent RL - not Wembley, and on that basis my vote goes to Mike Gregory.

Then it has to be Eric Ashton, captained his country to an Ashes win in Australia. The first player to captain a winning team in two successive Challenge cup Finals.
The first man to be a player, coach and chairman of a winning Wembley team.

Mike Greg for me.

Or as you say Eric Ashton (he was well before my time and therefore I was un-aware of his achievements at Wembley).
I just hope the RFL don't cock this up. This is a chance to advertise RL's greats, such as Eric Ashton, Mike Gregory, Shaun Edwards - the list is endless.
However, it is the RFL so we'll end up with a statue of Stevo.

| Edwards should be discounted on account of being sent off at Wembley for GB against the Aussies in 1994, in my mind (was that the same one when Jiffy scored in the corner?). As you may have worked out, 1994ish was around about the time I started to take more interest in RL (had been going to Leigh games on-and-off for two years prior to that)

As I've said personally I would have Shaun Edwards, but he was only a support player wasn't he.
Sarcasm apart the jealousy against him is unreal and unfounded.
I picked Eric Ashton as a "safe" choice and would be delighted if it were him.
However, if every true RL fan put aside their club prejudices, it would be Shaun Edwards.
11 Wembley Challenge Cup Final Appearances with 9 wins will never be surpassed.

He is union though
And he was just a support player, he couldn't create, pass, kick, organise, lead the team or anything. he was just in the right place at the right time, sort of a glorified Ricky Bibey.

| I would contend that the most iconic photographic image related to Wigan RL and indeed Wembley is the shot of an airborne, try bound Trevor Lake in the 1965 final, considered by many to be the greatest Cup final.
That would do for me
