| Quote ="TheElectricGlidingWarrior"[uYou're saying the collective appraisal of Wire on here is part of Wigan's strategy to beat them, and that you're actually complicit in working out a strategy with Madge?[/u
'"
If I had meant that, I'd have said it. But as it would be complete nonsense, I didn't.
Even at our level - fans discussing games online - we can afford to be realistic. I don't think that pretending Wigan are miles better than Wire is any basis for a sensible discussion.
I repeat that I think Wigan have the ability to do Wire, and they may well do them when the time comes. Wire, for all their current form, have proved to be chokers in the play-offs and Wigan have much more strength-in-depth than they are displaying. But Wire have got the drop on us in terms of match-points, which may be very important come the end of the season (that's an area where Wigan can do much more than they currently are), and they have really got on a roll at present whereas we seem to be sputtering along (albeit we're still joint-top, which is a very good sign).
Quote
I think everyone's got drawn up in "Wire fever", which they wouldn't if the original league schedule had been played. As for who is the team to beat, well the bookies have us down as favourites to take the silverware home from OT, and since we've lost 2 to their 4 and will almost certainly go top with our game in hand, I think they'd be pretty daft not to consider [ius [/ithe team to beat.'"
I can't second-guess the bookies. I rarely agree with them anyway, but this assertion of yours contains several ifs - not least the bit about us winning our game in hand. Bear in mind we've actually got to win it (and it comes midweek, which will be a challenge in itself). Again, I've no doubt that Wigan can do it should they get their act together, but we seem to lack the eye of the tiger this season, and that counts alot more to me than hypothetical speculation about what MIGHT have happened IF a different fixture list had been played.
Wire still haven't convinced me that they are guaranteed championship material. I've said over and over that they are the best team in the league AT PRESENT. But I still suspect their communal age will work against them at some point, and form - even excellent form - is temporary.
And so us a favour, eh - don't be implying that just because supporters are concerned about Wigan's present performances that means they are disloyal. That's quite an arrogant attitude to take.

Yeah you're right, instead of talking about rugby i should just let everyone get their appendage out put them side by side and get an independent adjudicator to annouce a winner.
But because i'm an idiot i didn't do that.
I'll be honest when i read a lot of wire posts on this forum i just think and when i read wigan post on our forum i think

| Can anyone tell me when the rules changed and a game in hand became two points in hand? As it stands Wire are top and if, horror of horrors, we don't actually win that foregone conclusion...sorry, game in hand they will still be top by virtue of what appears to me to be a fairly impressive points difference.
If some Wire fans getting carried away is considered ludicrous then surely the dismissive attitude of some of our fans is equally ludicrous.

You can't blame them at all... but [ius[/i!? Why are we joining in the collective w*nk over Warrington? Why are we practically writing Wigan off despite being statistically in a better position? Why don't we have enough faith as fans to consider beating Cas as a pretty realistic expectation of going top but instead prefer to think that's "rubbish". I despair at this thread I really do.

I didn't say you were an idiot, though there are many on the Warrington board who are.
There was an overreaction to gerrem'onside's postings, which weren't particularly offensive (although he received abuse).
Most amusing was the call for action to be taken against him on the laughable basis that if he were a Wire fan then the Wigan mods would have banned him (there'd be few Wire fans able to post on the Wigan board if that were the case)...

Look at the points against they are only 4 infront of us
They beat cas by 62,salford by 60,crusaders by 58 and qunis by 76 that is 256 off 4 games against poor teams
We have had quite a few injuries and done well to stay up in the top 3 WITH A GAME IN HAND we are nearly at full strength and doing everything right who cares if we aint smashing teams by 50+ everyweek it might be the downfall of warrington
I aint taking anything away from what they have done but can everyone please stop saying they are way infront cause they are not

Only 4 infront?
You mean 4 less points against having played two games more.

| Can be as much points difference in front as they like, I'd much rather be where we are, 2 points off top with two games in hand. Scoring most tries doesn't win you the title, winning games does.

| Quote ="Phuzzy"I would tend to agree that Wire are the form side at the moment. However, despite Wire playing at their peak and Wigan way below par you're no better off or, once the two games in hand are played, possibly 2 points worse off. Interesting, don't you think? As to the affirmation that no-one can beat you when you're playing at your best, I think that smacks of a little over confidence or even arrogance. It's easy to make that claim and use 2 games where you indeed played at your peak and won as examples. In both instances the teams you were playing were well below their best. Leeds have been a mid-table team all season and we were coming off the back of the WCC. Indeed, as I suggested above, we have been in 2nd gear most of the season so far. Let's not forget that you've been turned over 4 times already this season and been well beaten in the process. It's all well and good to say that you weren't at your best during those games, but at least have the perspective to apply the same criteria to your victories too. Let's see if you come out on top when BOTH teams are playing at their peak before making claims like the above.'"
Who says we are are at our peak; you?

| Wire are the form team at the moment. they have a ruthless streak in them that allows them to stamp their authority on teams for a full 80.
i am seriously worried about having to play them away in thecup (altho bizarrely i am happier to play them away than at home).
they are easily the best team we have played this year, and with 2 cup wins now have a winning mentality.
Lee Briers has always been a major factor when they play well, so should rightly be the leading contendor for the MOS, along with Sam.
Their progression over the last 5 years has been very impressive and shows a Club being very well run. Them and Huddersfield have really strengthened SL and certainly could teach the Bradford board a thing or two.

| There's a lot of cherry and white tinted specs being worn at the moment.
Wire have the best attack and the best defence this season. Sure, we're only half way through, but I can't see them falling apart this season. They might lose 2 more games before the play-offs, but I just don't see any weakness in them right now, and I, for one, think they are the favourites for the GF and the CC as well.
Disrespect them at your peril.

You don't think the above comment is 'getting carried away ( just a bit)................'
Wigan were the best side over 27 rounds in 2010 and finished top. Prior to that, not much evidence in the last decade to back up what you say.

Where in my post did I 'w*nk over warrington'?
I merely said that we were just as bad as the wire fans this time last year getting carried away thinking we were unbeatable......

I meant that we would have been there since round 3 (in my opinion - we'll see on 6th July if I'm right) if not for a schedule clash. If we beat Cas then it will show that the top spot was rightfully ours from round 3 onwards.
