Clearly Burgess was a heart over head signing. With all the calls for more size in the front row, what better signing to appease the fans than one of the biggest props in the world? If the Wigan management are not worried, then they need a reality check. That wasnt just start of season poor fitness or carrying a knock, that was a player that is now struggling to play the game.

I hope we can get him to a point where he is able to do a job for 10/15 minutes each half but he looked in far worse condition and decline than i had been warning about since we announced his signing. Its a shame because i like George Burgess. In his prime he was a beast and an exciting player to watch.

I would have thought some due diligence was done prior to signing, medical etc. I’m not prepared to write him off after 17 mins however he needs to get his fitness up to scratch before Lam even contemplates selecting him.

Getting stepped by Austin and getting run over by Murdoch-Masila isn't a fitness thing. It's an ability thing.

I'm sure the club is telling everyone that he was injured, but they yanked him off the pitch after 15 minutes and didn't let him back on because they saw what an utter liability he was.

He certainly didn’t look fit though, in the opening minutes he looked to be trying to catch his breath and getting up from the tackle seemed to take an age for him. On watching the game again it was played at some pace early on and credit to Warrington who made our forwards do plenty of work.

Did anyone see him play in the NRL last season? How did he manage to keep his place?

He played every week last season (when not banned) and was brought straight back in for the playoffs. Give him time as he is clearly carrying some form of injury.

I think he also played off the bench which, when fit might be the best place for him.

The guy should never have played on Thursday as he was patently not fit i.e. carrying an injury
When he does return he should come on around the 30 minute mark to enable him to continue after half time.

I said on Thursday whoever thought he was ok to play on the night should just go. The guy was clearly so unfit he was an accident waiting to happen.

I just don't see how anyone can try and defend that performance.

I want all of players to succeed but in all honesty I have never seen anything like it in my life particularly after hearing from GB and SB that GB had a great pre season.

If the reason to play was for financial reasons IL should apologise for the guy.

Poor form or little "rusty " is perfectly acceptable being totally unfit is negligence by the club.

Anyway I've written the guy off for a few weeks until hopefully he can build up some fitness.Bullock looks 10 times the player and the young guys like Havard and Kilner look like real potential.

The ONLY way on would defend thencoaching staff if is handpicked up his injury in the first minute or so (which I dont think he did).

Getting in the car and finding out that hed picked 3 junior props along with ten minute Tony was bad enough, if I'd know that GB was that unfit/not ready to play I'd have been spewing!!!!

As I said about Hardaker last year, the true judge of him as a player will come much later in the season and I'm more interested in how hes playing july/August than jan/Feb.

My stop taking sense remark was aimed st those somehow intimating that hes had some kind of career threatening injury for 2/3 years and wed signed a crock.
As pointed out barring thevsuspension Burgess played almost every game in the last 2 years.

Shocker of a decision to play him, we effectively started the game with 12 men. If Lam felt obliged to play him with him being a marquee signing then that's deeply worrying.
I'm certainly not pressing the panic button over his signing but whatever rehab he needs then a half a dozen reserve team games will do him and us the world of good.

Definitely and it’s not like we’re short of options. As well as the guys who played on Thursday, we have Flower due back, Bullock who should’ve played, Clark is waiting for a chance and I’m convinced Ben Kilner would be a huge hit given the chance. There’s also Jack Wells who could go in there if needs be.

Evidently Thursday didn't go as Lam or George Burgess would have liked and I am pretty sure both will not be happy with what was served up in the 17 minutes or what ever in amounted to In that time he managed 2 carries and 9 tackles which is clearly not enough but on the other hand ten minute Tony managed a whopping 3 carries and 9 tackles but once again escapes any criticism?

I do wonder what the wage difference is between Tony & George though? I think this is what concerns a lot of people who expected one of our marquee players to deliver a bit more than what was served up.

Hopefully the hip is better soon but this seasons decision making from Lam will be under much more scrutiny than last season and people will be less forgiving.

Only round 1 and we got the win but Burgess may have a job on his hands to earn a place back in the side.

I think we are going over the top a little on Burgess.

He s apparently had a hip issue which he's managed in the past playing in a pretty tough comp.

They probably made a judgement he could do they same, with the added pressure of wanting to start with all the big names on the 1st night and it backfired, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Give the poor guy more than 17 mins before writing him off
