I recall someone being annoyed that Wigan were "getting a rookie coach!" when Maguire was appointed.... Wonder how that worked out, wish i could find it.

I have only been watching WRLC "live" since 2003 although followed from afar since the early '60s (How i loved Granstand on a Saturday and floodlight Rugby League midweek) so i am pretty much a novice compared to most on here so i have not been "scunnered" yet and still kean as mustard to get to games.

I said to my son at half time at Salford first game of the season (26-0 up and playng well) we could win this League in a canter this year. How wrong was I. Got a lot to learn this old one lol.
When we win these days it's is ground out results . When we loose it's without a fight which seens a strange thing to say about WRL. I am sure we will win the Cup and take Superleague by Storm next season as "Things can only get better" can't they ???

Clubb - 10 tackles, 6 carries for 50 metres
FPN - 11 tackles, 7 carries for 42 metres
Sutton - 34 tackles, 13 carries for 64 metres (good defence but awful with the ball)
TT - 18 tackles, 10 carries for 91 metres (best of a bad bunch)

From the Saints game:
Walmsley - 25 tackles, 20 carries for 180 metres
Taylor - 25 tackles, 20 carries for 145 metres

When are we goint to sign a pack leader?

Those stats are shocking....I listened on the radio (BBC MCR) for the first time last night....they had a lady that works with Wigan on the commentary, i kept missing her name, she literally broke down ever error wigan made, she called our plays for what they were and was less that happy. Surely as she works for Wigan, the fact we are not playing well at all is common knowledge amongst the staff? This appears to be less than an easy fix, have we all missed something? Are the players themselves not happy?

Those figures are utterly appalling.

I don't get all this negativity, we ground out a win against a form team in poor conditions, keeping them to one try. What's more, Saints got beat so if we win next week (which I strongly expect us to) we will most likely be 1 or 2 points off a play off spot. We are World Club Champions and in the Challenge Cup final in a fortnight. Lighten up!

At least we know how many season ticket holders we have....10.000 plus a few hundred..

We have plenty local teams that play better rugby and are better coached.

...and at that point we play away to teams whose season is very much alive. I wouldn't be surprised if Saints & Hull put 40 on us and SW trots out the usual post-Wembley pish about player fatigue.

If the players are fatigued and need a decent pre-season, don't fly them around the world to play a home game and an exhibition game.

Not much use if we don't know how many minutes they played.

doesnt affect the decision making, passing out overlaps, stepping inside when he was drawing players for the pass, the gap he created then passed to sam instead of just scoring, kicking when not needed and killing play. He had a stinker

On the bright side we were not at the St Helens game.

It is, as that is the "work" rate of the entire prop rotation - it's slightly better than last week when they carried the ball 29 times in total the whole game. We either have the laziest set of props in the league or they are coached not to take the ball in that much?

We haven't had a commanding prop, other than Lima for a short stint, over the last 8 seasons during which time we haven't done too bad.

Imagine what we could have done with a couple of props worthy of the name?

You're kidding right? We are SL and World champions therefore we clearly have the best players, coaches and tactics in the world and do not need to improve any of that at all.

Please don't expect us to sign props that make yards.

I agree it's a puzzler. We haven't had a Morley Peacock Graham Hill (Fielden was in this class but didn't do it for us) type yet we keep coming up with the trophies. The props have generally contributed enough to at least hold their own in the big games. Maybe too much reliability on one prop is a negative?

Oh it's not the first time. I was getting slated on here for stating the obvious about Noble as well. Funny that.



Blah, blah. I was right about Noble and I am right about Wane. You know this so that is good enough for me despite silly comments as above. Am I glad I am right, do I enjoy watching the boring sub standard RL served up by both coaches? No, and neither do you.

If you are implying that was me, you'd be wrong. I could not wait to see the back of Noble. I was even in favour of Wane taking over when Madge left because I thought we'd see continuity but you might also recall me posting on here a comment about what Wane said just after he took over. That comment from Wane was (despite the obvious success under Madge), he'd like to do things differently and he pointed to narrow losses and a sub par performance against Widnes (I am certain he mentioned them) when we'd lost about half a dozen games or less all season. He was, apparently, going to improve on the best two seasons since 2006 by changing a winning formula. I was shocked when I read that quote. I thought he was being arrogant in that despite the team going from clueless under Noble to CC and GF winners (and convincingly) under Madge, Wane felt he knew better. Well regardless of what he thought about his own abilities and how he was going to improve things and yes, despite the trophies since then, he's taken this club backwards. From saying the few losses we got under Madge weren't good enough, we have lost a shed load this season. Someone should play that quote back to him and see what he has to say about it.

He'd storm off in a huff, like he did when interviewed after the Widnes game last year.

Wane is downright stubborn and either cant or wont change his approach to coaching. He believes the amount of finals & semi finals he has got to justifies the style of play. The dwindling crowds, the narrowing of the wins and the level of the beatings when it doesn't go to plan suggests that more and more clubs have his one-style tactics sussed.

If he wishes to stay in post then he needs a Plan B & C.

And yet still, in all this time the Chairman has continued to deliver cup final appearances, silverware, etc.

How do you square that with your ongoing skepticism of him? Or do you just not bother trying?

If being Super League and World Champions and possible Challenge cup winners all at once is the club going backwards, then long may our demise continue.
