Had we not won the CC then I wouldn't have been as bothered, but it's not every season you get close to doing the treble. To do it at anytime would be great, IF (and it's still a big IF) we did it in Sinfield and Peacock's swansong would be even more special. We've pretty much done everything in their time at the club.....apart from a treble.
Also I think for the players it meant a lot because they've taken quite a bit of stick over the last few years for their regular season finishing positions.

| Meh! The Cas fans will have just been sticking it to you as that is where they were at the time as circumstances unfolded. They stuck it to us the week before and some were even chanting "Wigan, Wigan" on the West Terrace. It was just banter. No one spit their dummy out about it.

So, in other words it was meaningless. Which just about sums it up.
The point about this Yorkshire thing is this; NO-ONE is bothered outside of Yorkshire. When the chant goes up people just shrug the shoulders. I mean we just couldn't care less about which county you live in/were born in.
And the idea that I would stick up for Saints (Merseyside) or Warrington (Cheshire) because they are playing in Leeds is ridiculous. Saints are the enemy. Whoever beats them is alright with me.

Spot on. The old Yorkshire / Lancashire rivalry died when the changed the boundaries imo.
Lancashire for me is a cricket thing and associated with Blackburn, Burnley etc.
It's about as meaningful as Hudds fans chanting Fartown.

Well of course they're not, they weren't born in Yorkshire poor souls. If I hadn't had the good fortune to be born in Gods own county, I wouldn't care which county I was from either.

As for the daft celebration at the end, was more to wind you lot up I'd guess and judging by the comments on here, it worked a treat. Additionally to see pics of Wane looking devastated on TV again, is pretty funny for any none Wigan fan.
As for accepting mediocrity maybe? But its a hell of an improvement (not tonight) from where we have come from. Even when you lot win you're sore losers and probably justifiably the most hated team in RL, with absolute soulless, plastic, robotic fans for good measure.'"

I strongly suspect that Wane and his troops would have expressed the same unconfined joy had Wigan pipped Leeds on friday with the last play of the regular season .
To win two pieces of silver is a fine achievement , all three would be outstanding .
I am puzzled as to why you aren't bothered ?
A sure sign you have trophy fatigue my friend

I've long advocated the LLS being given greater prominence. But I was just happy to get a home tie to be honest. I do recognise Leeds achievement, unlike many others, and it's good that you seemed up for it. Though in the end there isn't much between the teams over the thirty games, being level and with us winning two and Leeds winning two I hope that we can meet in a decider at OT.

| First thing they need to do is change the league leaders trophy to something that doesn't resemble a catering tray. The SL trophy is still the big one but it's literally like comparing an iPhone 6s to a Nokia 3210.

| The crux of this thread is pretty funny. I think you are taking issue with the fact that another teams fans would rather cheer a rival than cheer for Wigan. Does that not say something about the general view of your team and it's practices? I am a Warrington fan, and Wigan are bottom of the pile when it comes to teams I'd rather cheer for, Saints are just as big rivals as Wigan to me, but if it came down to cheering for one or the other, it would be Saints, even after all the hurt they inflicted at the death over the years.
And the simple reasons for this are that while Saints have their fair share of nastiness and petty play (Wilkin, Masoe etc.) Wigan have such a bigger amount of what i perceive to be thuggish behavior, and the very fact that their coach actively encourages such an ethos is the big no no. Comments from his mouth have sometimes been seriously silly and the way he asks his players to go out and do what they do sometimes is just unacceptable to me, and that's where my hatred stems.
This does not mean I am not able to appreciate the talent in that side. It's all definitely there and only a fool would play blind to the ability and skill shown on that field. Unfortunately the other side of things is what drives my opinion and outweighs the positives.

Pretty well explains my attitude to Wire, though I'm thinking mainly of the d###heads who watch them, not play for them.

I still chuckle at Westwoods one game ban from a friendly against Italy
If Wire had made the play offs and played in a final and Westwood did that now, how many games do we think he'd get? Considering his England career looks to be done I'd guess far more then 1 friendly!!

Who are you trying to kid by trying to justify your hatred of the game's biggest club? We all know how it works in Wankington, it's drilled into you to hate Wigan from birth. You attend matches 50
% to watch Wanky and 50% to hate Wigan.

I have never denied that that act was stupid of Westwood. He was lucky he stayed on the field and I didn't condone it at all. But you know, at least he didn't punch someone while they were prone out cold on the floor. If you don't think there is a huge difference there then I don't know how to reason with you. Also, that is the only instance I ever see brought up by you lot. The Westwood one. Please name some others? Because I can name many you have committed in the past few years alone.
Joel Tomkins and Tony Clubb seem to actively seek out fights and bad behavior. I once remember Myler scoring under the posts after a kick. He had scored, and was lay for pretty much at least 5 seconds before Tomkins comes in and cleans Myler out while he's on the floor. There was honestly no reason for it other than Anger over having a try scored against his team which I found to be disgusting.

| The main reason for the Leeds fans celebrations was that for the first time under the new system the true champions are the league leaders plus it gives us a chance to win the treble although admittedley in the long run the last score now actually gives Wigan an advantage as they get the easier semi final especially as Huddersfield will be lucky to take 500 to your place

But your tag of the games biggest club ended 20 years ago in the mid 90's. Your domination was shown up when Super League came about and you had to play with only a certain amount of money. You went 13 years of SL only winning One Grand Final. That is pretty bad going for the best team in the world. You even got so bad you were almost relegated and stayed up by the skin of your teeth.
Leeds and Saints have surpassed you now, they are much better than Wigan and their SL history proves it. You can come back with mocking of Warrington's fortunes, but the difference is we are well aware of our shortcomings and never claimed to be the best team at any point. We are not blind to our failures and tag of pretenders to the throne. But it's certainly not your throne we are pretenders to. To still be calling yourself the games biggest team based on history 20 years previous shows how low your fortunes are now.
In theory we should be hating Leeds and Saints for their success as they are the ones to beat. And yet no, we all still would rather them win. So it's not due to success that we hate Wigan because you scarcely have any, you're getting back on the horse recently though so maybe one day.

Leeds yes, but Saints? We finished 1st, they finished 4th. We have won two challenge cups and two grand finals in the past 5 years and they have fluked one by default. When we have played each other over the same period we have won 12 drawn 1 lost 7, with them never winning by more than 8 points and us dishing out some thrashings. Hardly think that backs up what you are saying.
Best of luck staying in the top 8 next season by the way. Whilst Leeds, Wigan and Saints are dead certs for the top 3 with Hudds, Castleford and Catalans likely taking the next positions I genuinely think Warrington have the quality to take 7th or 8th spot with a bit of luck. Your derbys with Widnes will prove vital!

Perhaps not St Helens then, but I was speaking over the Super League since it's existence. They have won more Grand Finals than you. Even with losing 5.
And thank you kindly, I am sure we will do okay. I look forward to seeing how Willie Isa does next year, I am sure he will absolutely rip it up like he has been doing with Widnes this year.

Can you please respond to my post? the one you made went off on a tangent, I can only draw the conclusion that you weren't able to answer my point sufficiently and actually proved my point that you seem to be stuck in the mid 90's with your response.
