I would question the sanity and future job prospects of the person who made the final decision. Imagine what would happen if we were chosen and won, when the percentage is to choose the lowest ranked team.

They'll choose the lowest ranked team. Unless it's a potential major derby (i.e. Wigan never pick Saints or visa versa) then everyone should always pick lowest ranked.

I think we would win. Can't see us beating you at Old Trafford though.

We've done rather well in knock out games under Maguire.

Personally, I get the feeling we've got 1 big performance left in us this year, which would fit in nicely with a Semi Final. I'd not be too confident of backing that up the week later though.

I'd like my chairman to have a huge pair of stones and pick the hardest possible team personally, hate limp games always want the hardest possible tie in cup games too, i must be sick

The away game at your place a week after the GF is the only time we have been well beaten away from home under Maguire. I am confident we would turn up well and put in a huge performance. We would bring huge away support and it would be a very different atmosphere to the Saints game at the weekend. We would not put in a performance like we did in the league.

At Old Trafford I would not be confident, Warringtons first super league final, we would have just had a real tough game against Saints the week before and we would run out of steam.

Obviously its all theory but its just how I feel.

All those years of most of the league being better than us made up for it, <hovis advert music> every game was tough in those days, mud, rain, Wilderspools rusting roof supports in the Fletch, aye it was tough but it was fun

IF we beat Catalan, I hope Wire pick us. Massive pressure on them to perform then.

Its a more interesting question if catalan beat wigan.

The lowest placed side is arguably the better side.

Pressure on us whoever we pick due to us being at home and coming 1st.

If we are good enough to win it we should be able to beat anyone one at any stage.

Not picking the lowest ranked team would raise eyebrows. Egg on your face if we then turned you over = pressure

NO

No and the reason they usually say for doing so is it is the only way to avoid any kind of controversy which may spur a team on. With any luck this "tradition" of picking the lowest placed team will carry on year after year and the RFL will realise it is a waste of time and the idea can be quietly dropped.

Wigan have just done it at U20 level. They have chosen Wakefield (4th) as opposed to Cas (7th)

Go back to the top five system, it rewarded the team that finished top by giving them a week off in round one, and then they only had to win one game to reach the final.

The top eight rewards mediocrity.
