| I don’t think it is more important to either one side or the other, but I do think if we win and win well on Friday (not saying we will), the psychological impact on Wire and the rest of SL will start to believe that Wigan are almost uncatchable at the top. If Wire win, then they go 3 points clear (ok we have a game in hand, but it’s a long time before we play it), and it’s game on for everyone.
Yes, there is a long way to go, but it wouldn’t have mattered when this game was played. I believe that this game will have a major bearing on the final league standing positions.

Correct,
If there were only four or five games to go, then it would be very important, at this stage of the season it's just two points.

| To answer the Wire fans' points on the size and status of their club/team in the eyes of Wigan fans and others, here's the way I see things:
1. For much of the noughties Wire were a bogey team of Wigan's - a smaller club who punched above their weight and had to be taken seriously in a match between the two sides even though they weren't serious rivals across a season.
2. Prior to that, with the exception of one season in the early 90s Wire haven't exactly performed well. Yes a game against Wire was a local derby, but they just weren't a big team and playing at Wilderspool it was hard to take them seriously as a club either.
3. In the last few years Wire have improved considerably on and off the field. They still lack consistency and the play-off record is poor, they been a cup side to be honest, but this season I think most Wigan fans would expect them to be the biggest threat.
4. Wire fans need to calm down. Wire is clearly a club on the up and you have a lot to be proud of, particularly your big away following (most RL clubs these days bring support to the DW that could be accommodated by a couple of buses but Wire have a big travelling support). If you want to be taken seriously for your very good side then don't behave like Leigh fans would if they suddenly found themselves with a quality side by some miracle. Warrington is a pretty big town but - and I'm not saying this to wind you up - there's a reason for the "inbred" jibes and it's not because people genuinely think Wire fans come from a restricted gene pool. It's because many of you have a small-time, unsophisticated mentality. Be less aggressive, it comes across as a desperate reaction to your own sense of inferiority. Your club is on the up - your crowds are pretty healthy and you are expanding your stadium. Sometimes though Wire fans behave like small children in the school playground, desperate to be allowed to play with the bigger kids and throwing tantrums when they think they aren't going to be allowed to join in.

How can I be baiting wire fans when I'm on the Wigan board. I was responding to another Wigan fan, nothing to do with any Warrington fan.

Sometimes it can be better to have a hard game the week before than to have a 'training match', it helps prepare you mentally for for whats to come, physically, yes it was hard, but its something players are ready for and expecting, both teams will be set for Friday.

| Quote ="Istilldontbelieveit"I find this very hard to believe. Certainly with respect to Leeds. Ive been to a few Wigan v Saints games, and also a couple of your games against Leeds. But the atmosphere from your fans during those matches compared to that of say, last year at HJ when you won that thrilling match, was nowhere near in terms of magnitude.
Then ofcourse you have magic weekend and despite being pitted against your 'biggest rivals' that day, I dont recall any banter from the massive support you took there being aimed at Saints. Instead for 6 hours, the 'w**ky Warrington chant was relentless. Which is fine by me if i'm honest.
Therefore, I'm justifiably led to believe that a game against us means more to the likes of yourself than you'll ever care to admit. Having said that, this 'front' put on by many fans doesn't bother me whatsoever. I dont seek respect or any of that nonsense for our club, its not necessary. I know how far we've come from the times when watching Wire was like watching a blind Hobbit pick out a tshirt in menswear. So if you want to pour cold water over the magnitude of this match then thats fine. Because I know what youre saying is a total crock!!
As for the game, its going to be a cracker! Ive tipped Wigan not to drop any points at home this season. I'm sticking with it marginally come friday. However, as a few have eluded to, this will not decide the outcome of each team's respective seasons. It will however provide an edge to either team mentally though, which will take either team a long way....
May the best team win!'"
This is getting boring now.
you seriously need to get over yourself..Saints and leeds or bigger games PERSONALLY..If that upsets you its called tough e.

I still think Wigan having an early lead with such a depleted squad would be rather demoralizing to the rest of the competition. Assuming Finch is as good as advertised of course.

Wigan_Knight is right.
Losing to Wire isn't as bad as losing to the Smellys or the Deluded Loiners.
I mean, you look at Wire and think they've done well this past couple of seasons and good on them but they'll probably fade away, bit like Halifax and we'll still be left with the serious job of beating our arch enemies.

The same can be said for a proportion of fans from every club - including the Pies. Singling out Warrington is imbecilic.

Agree with the first part, if not the second. I genuinely think Wire fans have a bit of a chip on their shoulders about not being part of a select group of top clubs. Wigan and Saints have nothing to prove to anyone (except each other in terms of bragging rights!), Leeds are a big city club and won't be condescended to by anyone. Wire fans are just a little bit vulnerable in ego terms (I don't think they need to be now, their club has moved on a lot in the last couple of years, but there you go). They'll probably calm down and chill out and be a lot nicer to deal with when they win the SL....

| The thing I hate more than losing to any team is the variation of this thread that we get on here prior to virtually any game. FFS grow up. I don't want a Wigan love in but is it too much to ask for reasoned debate and good quality p!$$ taking?
