it is easy to be critical, but i think it was anything but silly.

If all the SL teams thought that there place was safe then why would they try to improve? now they know they have to improve or they will be the one going down. it creates competition between the clubs to improve at a quicker rate.

there is not a chance in hell that all this progress would be being made if the clubs thought they were safe (afterall we all beat widnes last time around so should do the same again this time).

I agree. If the whole point of licenses is to have the strongest 14 clubs according to the set criteria, in Super League then how can you say one team is definitely going to get relegated. It just doesnt make sense.

Because Widnes already have a better ground, youth structure and business case than both wakey and cas, so one of them will probably go.

That is irrelevant though. Until the applications come in the RFL dont know who are the strongest 14 so there is no way they should be able to say that one existing club is going to get relegated.

As soon as cas sold westerman to hull i think they have put the nail in their own coffin

I think they've taken the view that they can't afford to be seen as turning the Super League into a closed shop for the 14 teams currently in it, and the best way they thought to counter that was to make sure there's at least 1 change from next season.

Assuming it is either Cas or Wakefield to drop out, it'll be a tough call on the one that doesn't make the cut.

I think Phelps is off to Wakefield, personally.

If he plays FB there, what does that mean for Josh Vievers?

They should play him in the halves, he'd be ten times better than Paul Cooke.

Phelps can play any where 1 to 7 and maybe at 9.

I think that's what would be appealing to Wakefield if they were to sign him.

There is a quota issue though, they are already having to release 1 player to fit under the quota next year cannot see them being able to unload 2.

Cooke has totally destroyed his career. He had all the talent in the world and could have been an international Loose Forward in my opinion. What a waste.

) So as a replacement for Cooke I think he'd be 10 times better.

I always found Cooke difficult to place. Too slow to be a good 6, and too lazy and lacked the physique to be a modern day 13.

As another point of discussion, what other players do we think by now should be in the England squad but for some reason or another didn't get on the plane to OZ.

As an easy place to start: Martin Gleeson. Had an international career, and off form still should.

Coley/Paul Wood/Watts/Lynch.

Mainly Lynch though. Better than Griffin + Carvell.

100% agree with Lynch. He should have been one of the top English props by now. A player I once would have liked to have seen in cherry and white.
