| Quote ="FearTheVee"Am I right in thinking that if Wigan lose at the weekend, that's 4 consecutive losses against other top4 sides?
I appreciate wigan have won games earlier in the year, but perhaps teams are wising up to what were new patterns in defence and attack at wigan early season?
Perhaps I'm reading too much into it - I think you'll beat Leeds anyway, we would have won there a few weeks back had we not lost both halves to injury during the game. They look very beatable indeed. With a bit more composure you would have been out of sight against Saints and Wire recently too.'"
I think you're reading too much into it.
CC game, Leeds literally snatched it at the last gasp
Saints game, after giving you everything for a big period of the game, we started to play and very nearly overhauled you.
Wire game, had 20 minutes of total dominance and due to some great defence by Wire combined with the conditions, some 'bounces of the ball' and the odd trying to hard brain fart we were only 6-0 up when we should have been 18+ up. Lacking some kilos on the bench (very telling after so much possesion resulting in far more hit ups than normal), combined with loosing confidence, a knock to our fullback (that pretty much resulted in 2 of their tries), and some sublime kicking from Lee Briers got wire to take control of the game. And we still could have won it.
I don't think anybody has 'wised up' at all, just some of their best performances of the season have co-incided with us not being 100% - like I said earlier, if one of the top 4 plays really well then the other team loses unless it plays an equally good performance.

| Quote ="Cruncher"So that means Wigan are incapable of beating them? Yes or no?
(Before answering, bear in mind that Wigan are currently 9 league points higher than Leeds and have a match points difference of +361 - or is that more of my delusion?).'"
Capability of beating them easily, which you clearly eluded to in the OP, is highly unlikely given your performances against the Top 4 or record against Leeds when it matters. Quite simply, they won't roll over and let you belly tickle them.
Notwithstanding that they are 3 time back to back champions for a reason and I repeat, beat you in the most recent game despite performing poorly.
But don't let that catapult you from your 80's time warp.

| Think the burnout thing is rubbish! We got beat in a very close game against the current 2nd best team in the comp! We then backed it up away to the best home record (Yes they had players out but thats why its a squad game) whilst Wire couldnt back up their performance to beat bottom of the table!! next 2 weeks are massive now for Wire! 2 defeats could spell disaster and people will be saying that they have burnt out!!
My main worry as been that we dont kill teams off when we are on top and against the best in the play offs that count be a worry!!

| A very interesting topic , as I see it any of the current top 4 could beat each other on a given day . Wigan will start favourites on friday and rightly so , I expect them to win this game by 6-8 pts , but even if they give Leeds a hiding it will have very little bearing on the outcome of the season imo .
The truth is when it gets to the play-offs both Leeds and Saints have proved beyond doubt that they are both capable of mounting a serious grand final charge , whether Wigan and Wire can maintain their excellent season long performances remains to be seen .
Personally I think the Super league trophy may have a new name on it after the Grand Final , But only a fool would write off both Saints and Leeds .

And Wigan performed poorly in the same game, so I fail to see what your point is. Both teams performed poorly = close result, decided by 1 missed tackled in the last 90 seconds?
Oh I see what you're doing, Leeds were poor but Wigan played to their ability!
Has your season been that bad over in Bradford that you have to now just go around antagonising the fans of another club just for a cheap thrill? Nicely thrown in 80's time warp comment just to really make sure you turn it from a debate into a slanging match.
Bravo.

And let's pretend that all the stats I've quoted are from the 80s as well, eh?
None of the gibberish that I've underlined is relevant. Leeds just managed to beat us in the cup, at a time when we also played very poorly. That result was proof of absolutely nothing, and more fool you for hanging desperately onto it the way you are.
So ... thus far you have still given me no evidence at all, or even a reasoned argument, as to why Wigan can't beat Leeds well on their day.
This season Leeds have regularly shown indifferent form. Wigan have also shown indifferent form, but much less often. That is the reason why Wigan are miles ahead of Leeds in the CURRENT competition, not the past ones you keep frantically eluding to. (Yep, that would be those damn 2010 stats again). That is the basis on which we must inevitably conclude that Wigan are capable of beating Leeds well on their day. That, and the fact that they already have done once this year (keeping pretending that that result was somehow an injustice because Leeds had more injuries than Wigan doesn't take into account that Wigan have a better squad than Leeds, so you come up short on that argument too).
Keep trying though. Besting you on this thread is thankfully distracting me from the slightly more complex task of rearranging the socks in my top drawer.

Get real.
How can you possibly look at run of the mill league games and compare them to playoff games and grand finals?
Wire and saints away were both league games. Big deal, and you're most recent meetings with both, you've lost, and both at home.
In recent years wigan have gone into the playoffs as underdogs, with no pressure, knocked off a few lower ranked teams before coming up against a decent team and losing.
This year will be totally different. You'll finish top, and go into the playoffs as favourites. Huge expectations from fans and the media. [uEveryone will expect you to make the grand final.[/u You'll need to win 2 games to do it. One will be knockout. If yuou lose your first game you'll need to win 2 knockout games to do it.
Club call.
I don't think any of your fans think it will be easy because you topped the league. That's good. Because it will be bloody hard.
And league games against your rivals means f*ck all. Hell, even some playuoff results count for f*ck all. You see how much of a 2watting saints gave leeds in 2008, before 2 weeks later losing at old trafford?

Of course leeds have been indifferent this season.
This season will be the first time they've finished outside the top 2 since 2002. That's 7 straight seasons of finishing in the top 2. Christ. There's a limit to how consistent a team can be over that many years. Sooner or later their consistency will wane.
Last season leeds needed to win 3 playoff games to be crowned champions. This season, if they finish in the top 4, is the same. It will eb the same for wigan warrington and saints.

| wigan fans seem to think that because they'll finish top, the title is theirs.
But i suspect they'll be presiding over a team that finishes top and fails to make the grand final.
Not since the great saints team of 2005 has such monumental choking been achieved.
