It sure was, John Pendlebury scored to put us infront and Mark Cannon got one just after, terrible conditions, plus it was the day 'Here we go, here we go, here we go' really took off and became an anthem for the rest of the season, great days, lets hope there on the way back !!!!!!!!!

Murphy was about to substitute Pendlebury before he scored.
Was that David Stepensons debut?

No, he made his debut v. Saints in the C.cup
at KR in Feb 82, scored 2 tries and a drop goal in a 12-20 victory.

Oh yes I had forgotten about the 'here we go' chant which spontaneously took off in a big way that day. I still remember quite vividly the feeling that day amongst the Wigan fans that something significant was happening even though the rugby on the day wasn't that special and we clearly didn't know what was to follow. The only other time I have felt something similar was when we beat Hull KR in the 1985 semi at Elland Road. What I remember and still feel is the the sudden belief that surged through the fans that could only be appreciated by being there. I hope Friday is another similar defining moment in the history of Wigan RL. To be amongst 5000+ fans who all sense that the future has finally arrived would be an awesome experience. I was with my dad that day in 1984 and sadly he is no longer with us but I now want to share something similar with my son on Friday.

| Boxing Day 1984 and Mal Meninga on a marauding run with just a young scrawny Keith Holden between him and another certain try. Don't think Big Mal could believe it when Holden absolutely `levelled` him, and Wigan went on to win.

I know just what you mean about defining moments, I remember going to the 'old' Craven Park in Hull earlier in the 84/85 season, it was John Ferguson's 10th game for us, we were playing a good Rovers side and nobody really fancied us to win, but that day we absolutely destroyed them, Fergie scored 1 and made a couple for Gill (who got a hatrick) in a 10-30 victory, even the HKR fans were impressed and we still had Brett Kenny to arrive, I felt that day we had at last a team that would go on and win something, the previous year at Wembley had given us an appetite, now it was time to eat !!!!!!!
p.s. Maybe we should bring back 'Here we go' on Friday !!

| Losing 75-0 will unfortunately always be a memory i'll have from that ground. Not that I remember much of the game, I do remember them going over in the last minute to beat the 70-0 scoreline from the week before. Their fans went ape and I just sat on the terracing trying to hold back the tears. Horrible, horrible day (and era) that I never want to experience again.
Losing in the cup in 2001 when my mate was spat at all the way from the ground to the car - that was the last day I went to KR with my Dad as he now refuses to give the b@stards any money. My hatred for them grew that day.
Now to the happy memories. As have already been mentioned, losing 20-0 after 20 minutes. Me and my mate were debating whether to go the pub and watch the rest, but realised we'd get more stick in there for walking off. Que the fightback and when we went infront we ended up on opposite sides of the stand nearly (you know those moments when the celebration dies down and you turn to your mate who is no longer there) 38-34 late on and the thoughts of 'surely they can't' No doubt Mr Hemmings was creaming himself at the thought.
65-12 in 1997, the last day of the season thumping in 2000 (how good was that side) and the Faz drop goal. That was the first time we'd beaten them in a long while.
Now a neutral one, standing in the Popular Stand wearing a Leeds shirt and surrounded by Saints fans (who knew I was a Wiganer) when Ali Lauititi outpaced Paul Wellens in 2005
As strange as this sounds, I actually hope they finish above us this year simply so that my final memory can be knocking them out the playoffs in the last EVER game there. It may be a dump, but i'll miss it.

| The luke Robinson comeback game was amazing.
So was this =#FF0000*Link to Copyright Material Removed*
In general though I will miss the atmosphere, there is nowhere better for us Wigan fans and there never will be!
Another memory was the tight game we won when Farrell did that monster drop out, can't remember the year!
The 75-0 was bad, but we can erase that on friday!

Do you think we'd get away with a Farrell flag
"Eh you, you f****n s****house"
Followed by his immortal words to Scully
"Call yourself a captain"?

| The 20-0 down at half time takes some beating but my most memorable knowsley road will always be the one were we had to win to top the table and Renouf scored a hat trick. Il be devastated when knowsley road goes, got some fantastic memories.

| Back in the early 90's we had Henry Paul sent off in the 1st half, only then to build up a decent lead and throw it away, but with the last play of the match Offiah made 1/2 a break ball out to Connolly ball back inside to Inga who blasted through at least 3 challenges, the Kop end went berserk.
Lancashire Cup Final V Salford I think it was 87/88 i was only a young whipper snapper. Start of the second half and huge roar came from the back of the Kop end were dozens of Salford fans came charging in through the once open gap in the fence, anyroads within 2 minutes of quite violent exchanges these lads had their ar ses shown to them. Not a nice memory but it certainly sticks in my memory when talking about KR, I kacked myself.
